Re: Mines in Las Flores Canyon

You're correct, the previous mine you were working on is the McNally tunnel. I can't believe Bryant was able to fit through that hole, he's got brass balls. https://www.youtube.com/embed/tS7kH1949gE Dr. Hiram Reid gave an account in his History of Pasadena book of what I believe to be another mine o...

Revisiting The Road To Nowhere

Not to be confused with the Bridge To Nowhere, the road is in the same neck of the woods, high above the western flank of the East Fork. Also known as the Tunnels to Nowhere, this dirt road was built during the Cold War days with the U.S.S.R. when he U.S. government decided that Los Angeles needed a...

Looks like you got close to Owen Brown's grave marker. It was stolen, or rather rolled down a hill by an a'hole who lives in the La Vina area, same guy who's responsible for shutting down the mouth of Millard Canyon for ten years. I've tried to get to it from the residential side, but he's set up mo...

Welcome and welcome back! I'm glad the compressor is still there despite not being nailed down. TFitz: did you make a loop with the trail down to the creek and the gully up to the mine? Any water at all in the gully? I've been to this one three times. The first time I trespassed through the Cal Tra...

Wow, did you take the photos? Those are not actually my photos. The incident happened at Glacier National Park back in 2013 and became viral on the internet. Supposedly both animals were found on a closed road. The photos were featured in Outdoor Life, but I have not been able to find the photograp...

Re: Bizarre Death In Glacier National Park

This is a bizarre incident found on an icy road in Glacier back in 2013. It appears that a mountain lion was locked in an epic battle of survival high above. Both animals fell to their deaths (gruesome photos, but that's nature) https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/i.imgur.com/CMi7F2r.jpg Both an...

You could be right about the bus. Some sites report that it crashed in the 1970s, when the driver of the school bus lost control and went over a cliff in the canyon, killing most of the children. However these are not newspaper sites, so the validity of the claim is still up in the air. Here's what ...

Black Star Canyon

Black Star Canyon is located in the Santa Ana Mountain range, about 10 miles east of Angel Stadium in the Cleveland National Forest. It's a limestone canyon, long rumored to be haunted, with a bloody history to fortify the claim. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i411/albums/pp195/...

Inside the lower tunnel. This mine has three levels and multiple smaller mines outside the upper level. The wooden structure on the left is an ore chute, the catch gate is detached and laying on the ground. Sweet! Where are the other entrances? I've been to this mine a few times, but never went loo...

The guy (Tom Mahood) is beyond hardcore. Look at the Search/Rescue section of his website. He was hardcore even as a kid. https://www.youtube...

Here's a little background on that plane wreck. Yes, it was a glider or sail plane. It crashed on 2/6/74. The flight came out of Llano, California. The plane is a Schweizer SGS 2-32 N7622. James Webb and his passenger Harry Diltiz were soaring in high winds near Mt. Baden Powell and flew into a viol...

Those old stone cabin ruins belonged to a guy named Oliver Justice who moved up into the canyon when Azusa became a dry town (no liquor). According to the California Dept. of Fish and Game there is no provision in the Fish and Game Code prohibiting someone from picking up a set of antlers attached to a skull and carcass found on public land. So I'm assuming that makes it legal. One federal land such as inside a national park it's prob...
