Awesome photos of the bear tracks. I love how the silt in that area captures good quality prints from everything that walks through.

Red touches black, safe for Jack. Red touches yellow, kills a fellow.
Beautiful mountain king snake. Haven't seen one of those for awhile.

Re: I've Got Friends In Low Places
I stepped on one about three years ago in Eaton Canyon at night. He bit me on the boot, but fortunately his fangs didn't go through the leather. They're way more scared of you than you are of them. Most of the time they won't even rattle because it gives their location away.

Re: I've Got Friends In Low Places
Because of the heavy rain this winter, the rodent population is heavy and there are supposed to be a record number of rattlesnakes. If anyone is worried about getting bit in the brush, snake leggings are relatively cheap and will make you bulletproof from the knee down.

I'm crazy but not that crazy. GoPro makes a stick called the El Grande that allows you to keep your distance while you shoot. Those photos are actually clips I took from video. Because he was trapped in a bush his striking range was only about one and a half feet.

I've Got Friends In Low Places
Last Sunday I was re-shooting the interior of Big Horn Mine with my new GoPro. On the way back to the parking lot I was surprised to see this dusty black Southern Pacific rattler slithering across the road (in the middle of the day). He crawled into a bush, which made shooting him a challenge, so I ...

Follows Camp looks even creepier. And Sedley Peck, who owned it after Ralph Follows was killed in an auto accident on New Years Eve shot himself in the head, no suicide note was left. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i411/albums/pp195/minefinder/Abandoned/Follows%20Camp/5_zpsvdo36d...

Re: Baldy via Ski Hut and bowl, Jan 25, 2019
I'm looking to get a boot/crampon combo that will allow me to do a bowl ascent of Baldy. I've gotten a lot of different advice for what is actually necessary. Is something like the Lowa Renegade GTX enough? It has some flex, but the 12 point steel crampons I'm looking at (Grivel G12) would have a f...

How much does one of those color units run? If you don't mind me asking.
And how did you decide where to place the camera? I'm amazed you captured so many animals with a single camera.

Re: Inspiration in 2019
Great report. That's one of the nicest hikes in the San Gabriels. There used to be a tiny railroad that ran from Inspiration Point to Panorama Point called the OM&M Railway (One Man & Mule). Herbert the Mule used to pull the open air train, but they fed him leftover garbage from the Alpine T...
