Re: Roofing Nails on HWY 39 - Road Sabotage or just unlucky?

Citation for littering? They recently announced an involuntary manslaughter while intoxicated plea.....32 days in jail for Ian James Pike. Thats the penalty for being sloshed on a slippery muddy road and killing another person. http://scvnews.com/2015/01/22/driver-in ... slaughter/ http://www.dwihi...

Re: Roofing Nails on HWY 39 - Road Sabotage or just unlucky?

There is a huge rift in understanding between regular people like you guys and driving enthusiasts, and a big difference between guys like me and kids who crash and endanger other people's lives. The oil dumping threatens everyone, not just the folks some people wish to target when they 'sabotage' ...

Re: Beer Creek - To 2nd Camp From West Fork Road

I remember seeing this bigass black bear in Bear Creek once, a mile or so south of the branch that comes from Twin Peaks. Nutso. Big dude. Biggest bear I've seen in the wild. Arright, not trying to fish story it or anything but seriously. I totally believe you... I've seen some huge bears near the ...

Re: Beer Creek - To 2nd Camp From West Fork Road

You're welcome. Trail was in great shape. Water level very low, We were actually surprised to see as much water as we did. Lots and lots of poison oak. I haven't done the trail from Smith Saddle since 2012. I came up from West Fork Road. Looks like it will be another year till we can get up on Smith.

Re: Cabin Fire - shit!

That's just the area, not the road, correct? Well it sucks but it needs to recover. As long as they don't close the road we're good. I can live without that area for a year. I'm just going to miss Smith Mountain.

Re: warning: probable active grow site

I wouldn't worry about reporting these things... USFS enforcement is already on top of most of these sites. It's best to wait till the grow hits maturity and then raid it and most of them will be raiding them during the fall time when the sativa growing season ends and harvest is into winter. Most i...

Hello... I love the SGM and I've been in and around them my whole life. I'm coming back from a long backpacking hiatus and looking for people who enjoy the local area as much as I do. I have over 30 years of camping/hiking experience mostly off of 39 in the East and West Forks. Looking forward to sh...

Beer Creek - To 2nd Camp From West Fork Road

Did an overnighter to Bear Creek about a month ago. It was a nice night after a storm and the creek was running. Water's low as to be expected and water crossings are easily had. Got to our camp quickly no one else out there that night. Heard some folks saying that there was a huge bear in the parki...

Re: Cabin Fire - shit!

Accessing Bichota easier is certainly a silver lining to this event. Fire's stomped out and it's in mop up phases right now. Still closed up to East Fork. But from what I've heard Bear Creek is still accessible however Crystal Lake and Coldbrook Campgrounds opening is still not announced as of this ...

Re: Drive carefully and defensively on those small mt. roads....

Saw this the other morning... Damn shame. That lil road is tricky and old as all get out. I was planning on going up there this weekend to camp Spruce Grove but it seems that it would be crowded due to a painting club outing this weekend up there.

Re: Best stargazing spots in ANF

I always found Shoemaker Canyon in the East Fork a great place for stargazing. It's on the Sheep Mountain Wilderness border with the East Fork and I was able to catch quite a few meteor showers out there on a clear night . I've tried on the same nights to check how things would look off of Glendora ...
