Re: Is Water Turned On or Off at Mt. Wilson Summit?
It does appear that this announcement meant water was back on as well. I filled up there Friday.

Re: Water still running at Mt Lowe camp?
I hit it up twice in September, maybe one of those days was early October. Water both times.

Re: Is Water Turned On or Off at Mt. Wilson Summit?
Is there still water at Redbox? I filled up on water at Red Box on the 14th. Posted on Cosmic Cafe's facebook 21 Oct: FANTASTIC NEWS! The Cosmic will be opening full menu this weekend and with luck until the end of the season! Round of applause for those who helped fix the leaks and made this possi...

Re: Ken Burton Trail
So I've heard. I really just meant finally do that one loop.Sean wrote: ↑I'd focus on going through to Switzer's. Oakwilde is gone.staarkhand wrote: ↑I can't wait to finally make it happen, and then I will also set my sights on going through to Switzer.
Is anyone working on the trail from Oakwilde to Switzer?

Re: Ken Burton Trail
That's outstanding, thanks for the update. Ken Burton is literally the first longer loop I ever tried to do in the San Gabes dating back to when I first visited here and didn't realize the maps I was looking at ( http://www.foothillflyers.org/reviews/brownmtn.html ) were showing trails that hadn't e...

Re: Rincon Red Box rd vs Gabrielino
Thank you!
I will probably be doing this tomorrow and I believe the cultural center is open weekends only.

Re: Rincon Red Box rd vs Gabrielino
Ha, yeah, I've actually seen that fountain myself but never used it. What's throwing me off is the forest service site saying there's no water: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/angeles/ ... &actid=118 I was afraid it might be seasonal or just not working and would hate to discover that I'd have to...

Re: Rincon Red Box rd vs Gabrielino
Thanks a lot.
I'm seeing conflicting information about whether water is available at red box. Since I have only ever used it as a start/end point I've never worried about it before. Can anyone clear this up?

Re: Rincon Red Box rd vs Gabrielino
Moving efficiently is a euphemism for trying to run, and then actually walking when it's hard because I'm not an elite athlete. I'm aware of the distances and am not necessarily looking for the most efficient route from a distance point of view. Spending time out there is the point. I just thought I...

Re: Rincon Red Box rd vs Gabrielino
Thanks. I was willing to assume the road conditions were good, with the Gabrielino trail conditions being variable. I had expected the road to be the more boring route, as you indicated, and would pick the trail if it's in decent shape.

Rincon Red Box rd vs Gabrielino
Hi all, I am looking for opinions on a way to go from the Kenyon-Devore trail over to Red Box. I've never been on the Rincon Red Box road so I'm not sure how it compares to the Gabrielino trail in terms of scenery, ease of use, and freedom from nasty flora. Also my experience on this section of the ...

Re: Mountain lion on Altadena Crest Trail
I'm still calibrating my fear response for mountain lions. There are many people who tell me I'm crazy for going out on trails before dawn knowing they exist, and others who think the danger to humans is overstated. My approach is to not modify my behavior except for trying to remain mindful and res...

Mountain lion on Altadena Crest Trail
Tuesday, 5 May, about 6:15 AM I spotted a mountain lion on the ACT not far from Eaton Canyon - less than half mile from the bridge. Near what I have always assumed is a covered water reservoir just off Pinecrest. This was a surprise because it is maybe 50 yds from a row of houses. There was a small ...
