Re: East Mermaid (Peak 3702) and Middle Mermaid (Peak 4065) via Bear Canyon Trail (trip report and gallery)
Wow...good job though! I do hope someone makes it to Little Mermaid peak. I actually made yet another attempt at it, but I dont have the conditioning to make it there. It should be approached from the north. Either by the ridge next to Cogswell or via Hwy2/pk 5111(a lot less mileage, /more elevatio...

Re: My Discovery along the North Ridge of Iron
Cool! I'd assume it was some sort of mining thing, but if so, there should be lots of equipment nearby. You didn't see any? Think this was something else, or the mine and equipment were hidden in brush? I checked the really old plat maps, and this wasn't listed, but neither are any of the medium-ol...

Re: My Discovery along the North Ridge of Iron
If you were where I think you were, based on the topography in your photos, then it's most likely the remains of a miner's shelter from the old gold rush days. The site appears on an old map from 1903. That should be enough info for serious folk to find it. Email or PM me for details. This location...

Re: My Discovery along the North Ridge of Iron
Very nice find! I have not seen that mentioned on any of the north ridge trip reports I've read, though I wouldn't be surprised if one of the local experts here knows about it or has it mentioned in an old book! As I said in /r/socalhiking, I plan on doing this route this week, and would love speci...

My Discovery along the North Ridge of Iron
Jeez, its been a while since I posted anything here. Place has cleaned up quite a bit! I kinda moved over to just sharing my trip reports on my website trvrsapparel.com , except this report included a very special discovery that all of my friends and I agreed should not be published publicly. Still,...

Re: South Hawkins Ridge Traverse | Shoemaker Cyn to Crystal Lake
Very cool trip. Devil's saddle in particular looks really neat. Thank you! Both the saddles were very cool and tranquil places to be, with excellent views. When i went back to pick up our water cache, I felt very relaxed just being in that environment and that was shortly after a massive climb and ...

South Hawkins Ridge Traverse | Shoemaker Cyn to Crystal Lake
Put together a really strong group of 18 individuals plus one dog to head up to Crystal Lake the long, pokey, scenic way and lemme tell ya, we had some fun. One thing I don't note in the Trip Report is the fact that you basically get to scope out an entire 2/3rds of Iron Mountain from the Ridge. Als...

Re: East Ridge of Mount Russell via North Fork Lone Pine Creek
Nice TR! Russell is on my list of peaks I still need to hit. My trip up Shepherds Pass was supposed to be a xc peakbagging adventure starting with Tyndall and ending with Muir Peak hitting Willi, Trojan, Barnard, Russell and Whitney in between. My hiking partner wasn't up to the task so we just rol...

Re: East Ridge of Mount Russell via North Fork Lone Pine Creek
Great photos and an impressive time. The view from that ridge is incredible. Congrats on bagging Russell! Thank you! That section was too short lived. I feel like I could have enjoyed it more. It was hard switching over from the "get it done" attitude on the sections we had already done s...

Re: East Ridge of Mount Russell via North Fork Lone Pine Creek
Impressive trip report and photos. Particularly impressive doing it this late in the year in one day. It is truly a far better climb than Whitney by the trail or the Mountaineer's Route, as are many others, as you note. Unfortunately, I had to sit on Russell-Carillon Col with a dislocated shoulder ...

East Ridge of Mount Russell via North Fork Lone Pine Creek
Damn, its been a while since I've been able to write anything new here. But I've definitely been creepin' on y'all. Just wanna say thanks for the inspiration again and again and again you guys. I was really pumped to find this sticker atop Mount Russell tagged on the bottom of the register. TR link ...

Re: Solo San Antonio Ridge Traverse
Having just completed Iron Mtn. for the first time a few weeks ago I am in awe of you. I needed 5 liters to go out and back on Iron. Nice job! Thank you much! The early start always helps and I have been told by a lot of the running community that hydrating well the few days before a race is a good...

Re: Jones Peak via Bastard Ridge
I played around on here during my trail running injury days for physical therapy. The switchback cutting is from the recent explosion of this hidden gem. The local distance running community has taken a liking to its steepness for training. Its literally the only place you can get this kind of gain ...

Re: Solo San Antonio Ridge Traverse
ha! now that I got a decent write up of it, I might stay away from there for a while. Someone on this forum once mentioned a loop near West Fork, Cogswell Dam, to the ridge north of that and hitting little mermaid canyon to bear creek..I might be giving that one a shot before it starts heating up. ...

Re: Solo San Antonio Ridge Traverse
Nice report, awesome trip. I have been thinking about doing this one, but there is one problem: How did you get back to your car? ] Sorry, just got back from Big Sur. Re: Solo San Antonio Ridge Traverse
The winter conditions make this even bigger than just the SAR hike. I guess you could up the ante by doing a winter ridge traverse in the dark. I keed, I keed. Re: Solo San Antonio Ridge Traverse
Congrats! That's a really tough hike. Do you mean you went down the north side of Gunsight? I didn't see anything decent on that side. I actually meant that I stayed to the center instead of heading south... I will reword that in the blog so as not to cause confusion! Thanks for letting me know tha...

Re: Climbing Middle Palisade's East Face
Those fancy aluminum register boxes are rare. The only one I've personally seen is on Cobblestone in Los Padres. North Pal, Polemonium, Mt. Sill, and Starlight also have them, at least based on other reports I've seen. I was so pumped to see that box. I was really glad I let my friends do all the r...

Re: Bear Creek via Smith Saddle 3/23/15
All this talk about how difficult triplet Rock is from Bear Creek makes me want to do it. Unfortunately, I've dropped down to Bear Creek from Islip Saddle and just looking at those Ridges makes me tired. South Gully is the closest thing I can see on google maps that looks legit. I'll definitely keep...
