Re: General Conditions

It's been hot lately and I wanted to hike Upper Big Tujunga for awhile so thinking on hitting this tmrw. I just wanted to see if someone has hiked through this canyon lately and what the conditions are? Wanted something more recent than Brennan's article from 16 years ago. Thanks so much! http://www...

You could go up canyon from there
Thanks Matt! From where you went down to the canyon you said that you can go up canyon from there, can you clearly see the falls from any of those areas?

Re: West Fork San Gabriel river 12/25/10

Do you happen to know any way to get to Lower Devils Canyon by avoiding going into Cogswell Dam? I called and was informed that its been closed because of 9/11. Really wanna hike up Lower Devils. I see some possible cross country routes but it'd take some actual scouting for sure....

In his website, Dan Simpson wrote “Bottom line, I don't think the reward of going past the lower falls is worth the danger and risk, unless of course, you have technical canyoneering skills and equipment” Does anyone have a different experience? https://eispiraten.com/a ... riel+river It happens to...

Glen Canyon Falls

After the recent socal rain we received, I decided it’d be a great chance to see Glen Canyon Falls of the West Fork San Gabriel River. Gotta make this a bike hike unless you enjoy long walks on paved roads (12.6 mi r.t.) Indeed, it was a very pleasant smooth and scenic ride with the road following W...

Location Services on the Iphone use information from cellular, Wi-Fi, and GPS networks to determine approximate location. So even minimal reception, its able to tell me where I am, which is pretty amazing!

Re: What do you think of smartphone topo maps?

I use an app called "PDF maps" on my iPhone. I just get the topo map I need (sometimes free in their store), then download the KMZ file and its perfect! I have gotten through overnighters with that app. Haven't invested in a solar powered electronic charger yet, but its been very good for ...

Instead about a 1/4 mile in I noticed a fellow sitting in a chair partially concealed on the side of the fire road with his gun on his back. Hunting season is alive and well on Shoemaker Road. I have never seen so many hunters and most of them were damn lazy just hanging on the side of the road for...

Little Fish Fork & Upper Fish Fork

Rummaging through John Robinson's Trails of the Angeles late one evening, I stumbled upon "Blue Ridge to Prairie Fork, Pine Mountain Ridge, Sheep Mountain Wilderness, Little Fish Fork, Upper Fish Fork". In a moment's instant, I fired into research mode with the definitive knowledge that th...

Here's a TR from 15 years ago: Mount Gleason Tour Tom- On your Mount Gleason Tour- that was a fantastic read! Bike-camping is something I’d love to do around Gleason. I’d also like to explore more of Mendenhall Ridge Road as well since I’ve never stepped foot (except from Dillions Divide to head do...

Re: FS3N17 AKA Santa Clara Divide Road

One correction: where Santa Clara Divide Road crosses Mill Creek Summit, the road is Angeles Forest Highway. Big T road ends back near Josephine Creek and dumps you on AFH. I stand corrected. I thought of them as interchangeable haha. I've so wanted to always do a biking camping trip too!!! Hopeful...

FS3N17 AKA Santa Clara Divide Road

So last week I mountain biked the FS3N17 AKA Santa Clara Divide Road across the Angeles National Forest. Started at Three Points (Horse Flats) off of Angeles Crest Highway and ended at Bear Divide, Little Tujunga Canyon in the Western San Gabriel Mtns. (45 miles, 5300+ ft gain) It was quite an epic ...

Re: Pacifico Mountain Road (3N17)

I just hiked to Mt. Pacifico via PCT from Mill Creek Summit about a couple of weeks ago. Very beautiful and well maintained. It was about 14 miles, but gradual elevation, i think about 2000ft gain. I went on a Saturday and had the campground summit to myself. The campground itself is open, and its i...
