Re: Obama to designate chunk of San Gabriel Mountains a national

Like everyone else I wonder about a lot of things like if there will be fees. I was up at Baldy Thursday, maybe the last free day there apart from the adventure pass. Hopefully the funding helps. And there are better protections for some areas. I hate seeing the garbage and graffiti when I leave the...

Re: First time in Yosemite

Yeah Yosemite falls looks great. There are a few in the valley I think I can do the first day, or at least try.

Has anyone been up to Dana peak? I like that it is the most accessible 13000er, or so I read. But how is the hike up there? Looks killer.

Re: First time in Yosemite

Wow all you had to do was to mention beer Taco

I have a lot of experience in the eastern Sierra Nevada so I think I'll fit right in. However I thought to ask the user here because I don't want to be caught in the middle of a bunch of tourists. Kills the buzz you know.

Thanks for the tips

Re: General Conditions

Thanks for the reports. I had heard Icehouse Canyon took a beating but I have not been up there myself since before the storms. I'll post a report later this week as I wanted to head up to Cucamonga Peak.

Re: Cucamonga Canyon

I had not thought from Icehouse canyon but that may not be a bad idea in fact. Thanks for the link!

I'll check out the Stoddard route as well.

Re: Cucamonga Canyon

I have always wondered about Cucamonga canyon, how is it in general? I have looked down there from the top of Bighorn peak and Ontario peak and it looks interesting. However I never read any trails in the area except for the close Sapphire Falls trail. Is it worth the 15 dollar parking permit? :oops...

Re: What do you think of smartphone topo maps?

My iPhone goes through power like crazy when I use something like Map my Run but I just bought a small solar charger, so it can keep it going as long as I need to. Thanks for the app suggestions. I don't want to buy a GPS at the moment and as I usually buy and carry a map with me of the area I am at...

Re: INTROS - New members, introduce yourself here!

Hi my name is Robert and I love the outdoors in general. Since I was a kid I was always fishing, camping, hiking, and swimming. Now I am pretty focussed on hiking and last year hiked in Bryce Canyon and Zion national parks and have tried to do at least one hike a week. Hiking is a great workout by t...
