Re: EAGLE MOUNTAIN ATTEMPT

People keep on saying that hiking solo is more dangerous then hiking with groups. I have disagreed for ever and this story is a classic why groups are usually more dangerous, there are too many variables of decision making and skill set. Re: EAGLE MOUNTAIN ATTEMPT

AW -there were 9 of us. Two of us were tracking the hike from the start. One guy actually had a GPS device. I just think that our leader didn't want to admit that he was lost in the beginning. In fact someone tried to tell him we were off course but he didn't listedn I was with the guy with the GPS ...

AWESOME! Thats a cool hike and a good workout! But guess what? There are actually four benchmarks on Cahuenga Peak. The second time I hiked that route I found the fourth one hidden in some bushes. I will see If I can find my old pics.

EAGLE MOUNTAIN ATTEMPT

On Saturday I woke up before the crack of dawn, and my hiking buddies picked me up at 5 am. We carpooled to Joshua Tree to meet the rest of the group at 8 am. I was so excited to summit Eagle Mountain. We started our trek at the Lost Palms Oasis trail. The forecast was 80-degrees but it was overcast...

ROCK SCRAMBLING AND COOL CAVES TO EXPLORE

I haven't posted in a while but lately I have been busy exploring the Chatsworth/Simi valley area with my crazy Wednesday hiking crew. Our leader has taken us to a lot of cool hikes in these areas. If you love rock scrambling then you should check the out. Some of the caves are a bit challenging to...

Taco-enjoyed the report. Thanks for the info on ice axes. I dont have experience using them but I would love to do the Baldy Bowl sometime using them. It seems like a popular hike when it snows.

Re: Shoes for bushwhacking/rugged trails

I beg to differ. I love my Oboz.
I do alot of rock scrambling and bushwacking. They've never fallen apart on me. He'll I've even walked in pools of water with them. I don't wear the boot Oboz. I never liked hiking boots.
But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Same here Jeff. This is last year in the Eastern Sierras on my route to Dingleberry Lake. There were many sections were you had to navigate the correct route. A few areas had very few rocks in a line that were supposed to send you in the right direction.

Re: Rubio canyon

If you hike from 1101 Loma Alta and go up to the Gooseberry motorway you can enter the canyon on land that has a legal hiking easement (or from Echo Mountain) Yup! That's the route I always take. I do t like tp publicize it though because I like it the way it is now, without alot of un-necessary ri...

RAZORBACKS PART 5

I went back to the Razorbacks with my usual Wednesday hiking group. But this time we returned last Saturday and spent all day in this area. The Razorbacks were named by our leader Paul. In my previous report RAZORBACKS PART 4 , I described how we are still exploring various slot canyons in this area...
