Re: OAT MTN & THE OLD NIKE MISSILE SITE

You can drive to where the road ends which has a dirt parking lot and is called Antonovich Open Space or something like that but you have to pay there. I instead park at the turn out right before the homes that has a brown Parks Recreational area sign and a gate with a road to the left. This leads ...

Re: OAT MTN & THE OLD NIKE MISSILE SITE

Cool report and pix! I tried Oat Mountain via that route in March 2015, and got as far as the gate…it was closed, and I chickened out as I always do when encountering such an obstacle…at that time it would have been simple to bypass it on the right (see attached photo)…I see from your photo that th...

Re: OAT MTN & THE OLD NIKE MISSILE SITE

Nice pics! My great uncle was stationed at the Nike base as a gate guard back in the early '70s. I remember my mom driving us up there one VERY rainy night to bring him some dinner. That's the only time I've been up via that road, and I don't remember one bit of it! Also, didn't know KROQ had a tow...

OAT MTN & THE OLD NIKE MISSILE SITE

I had attempted this peak last year from Mission Pk and tried to discretely scramble my way cross country but was quickly stopped by the local authorities. Every road had a truck standing by to stop hikers passing by the Gas company's work site due to the gas leak, not to mention camera's that were ...

Wow so many colorful mushrooms and fungus!

Last Wednesday I hiked in the Santa Ynez Mountains to summit Broadcast Peak and Tequipis Falls. I have never ever seen so many colorful mushrooms in one day! It was quite a treat! https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/2046999/20170208_142443.jpg https://eispiraten.com/image...

Broadcast Pk & Tequepis Falls

I decided to take a day off work and hike in the Santa Ynez Mountain range. I met a group at Camp V Ranch Park which is off Hwy 154. We drove up the fireroad about a 1/4 mile and parked our cars a the Tequiepis Falls trailhead https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/2046924/2...

Re: East Ridge ascent to West Mt. Fuji & Mt Lowe Benchmarks

Did the hike this morning as a warm-up for Super Bowl Sunday. The work on the SCE trail is quite impressive and is still going on as far as the crossing over Pine. We started up the ridge by the transmission towers. We didn't see any evidence of passage up this ridge but there was a slight opening ...

Re: East Ridge ascent to West Mt. Fuji & Mt Lowe Benchmarks

Thanks for the writeup! I'm a bit unclear on the geography about what the new trails are. So there's a new connector from the Altadena Crest trail to the old Edison service road, and the section of the road from the connector to the first set of towers on the Lone Tree trail was cleaned up? Is ther...

East Ridge ascent to West Mt. Fuji & Mt Lowe Benchmarks

Last Sunday, I invited my 2 hiking buddies Bob and Christian to accompany me on a newly restored trail that my friend Jeremiah has worked on. Jeremiah and I previously hiked this trail and it was so cool I brought my friends along. It is the OER that is located off the Altadena Crest Trail. It's a v...

Re: Name that Fungus!

Thanks huff and puff I read the links you shared. It did have a gelatinous yellow- orange fruit body. At first I thought it was the fruit of a disgarded orange until I got a closer look. Very interesting Thanks again :) https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/gallery.myff.org/gallery/2041776/FB_IMG_1...
