wesweswes was thinking that the big white ones were a species of Lactarius. What do you think about the white one with the little round wrinkly ball on top of it?

I guess she was in the canyon below the falls. Could have gone over before or after she died.

I don't know! We need some mushroomers to weigh in. I also like the one with the extra nub on top.

Yeah. Now that I look at Uncle Rico's map again, I believe it. The medium-hit areas (yellow in his map) are clearly clustered, and not distributed randomly. So they're displaying some real effect. Interesting!

According to both of these, there's a ton of variability from spot to spot. Do we know if it actually does vary this much? Measurement error?

Have you tried the Selle Anatomica already? That thing was really painful for me for some reason. Scared me off leather saddles in general.

Of course it's unsalvageable! I have a shitload of new housing. I think I need to overhaul your bike. I bet you need a lot of stuff done to it. Hubs probably need service, all cables/housings replaced, bottom bracket is probably nuked, got 8lbs of rust in the tubes, probably got a colony of rare sp...

Wait, where did you drop into Woodwardia, and which way did you go? I more or less walked from just below the bridge to the falls just above the bridge. Where was your cliff?

I can descend the shortcut in <20 min! The canyoneers keep it passable.

Woodwardia falls, upper Dark Canyon

During the scouting mission two weeks ago I ran down the ACH past the Woodwardia canyon bridge. I saw a nice waterfall below, and today I came back to check it out. Nice! I've been in that area years ago to summit Redrock mountain benchmark (with tekewin, Sean and Hiker Girl). Do you know what happens if you keep going East past the saddle instead of heading South like you did? It's passable to Lake Hughes rd? By the way, the Orogenesis trail will pass through ...

Re: Red's Shortcut, Ken Burton, Dark Canyon

So apparently Red's Shortcut is described in some canyoneer routes, under the name "Twin Canyon Trail". For instance Brennen's "CCC canyon" page. That would explain why it still exists, and why it gets at least some minimal maintenance.

Bike riding: 2024/01 LA Tourist Race

I just biked the LA tourist race. It's a race through the local mountains that starts/ends at a bike shop in Burbank. There's no predefined route: you're instead given a list of checkpoints to hit in any order and using any route that you like. People then end up with a wide variety of routes. Here'...

I just think it isn't very interesting. There are zero trees. It connects to Brown Mountain fire road, which also isn't very interesting. If you're coming from Oakwilde to Brown Mountain peak, it would be a good connector, but that's about it.

I'm doing a bike race in a few days. As part of the route planning I just went to check on the conditions of a few routes around Oakwilde. Here's what I found. Nice trip! I haven't gone that way for a year or so. By the way, there used to be a level trail from Telephone Flat to Idlehour camp.
