Old newspapers tell me that the main airplane wreckage is (was?) in "Castlerock canyon". Anybody know which one that is? I've never see this name outside of those old LA Times articles.

I'd say this device is for rescue and for communication only. I wouldn't use it for mapping or navigation or anything like that. It looks like it's not amazing for rescue and comm, though. I might simply be expecting too much, though.

If you're on the trail, I think there're some steep areas as you climb out of the drainage to the saddle. If you're off the trail, you can slide further

To the left of Markham (the big flat-top one) you're looking into the ridge that has Occidental and Wilson. So it's the W edge of the Occidental ridge.

Nice! I think I've done this many many years ago. Don't remember anything about it. Do you have a sense of whether this had more shade, but it all burned down semi-recently? Or is this just how it is?
