I just did the Silver-Pine firebreak. Fairly straightforward as one would expect, with lots of up/down and lots of knee-high grass on the route. Pants highly recommended. This is only mildly on-topic, but why is peak hiking season "May through September"? It's hot and the waterfalls are dry-er then.

Agreed. You were west of the trail. I added the openstreetmap trail myself after a hike 2 years ago, and that's what it says. The trail definitely existed at that point.
