Re: P-22's condition breaks my heart
Read the story closely. The cat has mange - a naturally occurring condition that affects mammals with weakened immune systems. The researcher in charge of the lion monitoring project says that the relationship between the poison and mange is not understood. Hmm. :?: It seems though, that the author...

Re: Are these mountain lion tracks?
Thanks for the reply. I'm just starting to learn tracks. It's hard to tell in that loose dirt sometimes, but it always seems to be a dog! Boo! Ha. Maybe next time.

Are these mountain lion tracks?
I was out hiking this afternoon in the foothills area. There were signs posted at the trailheads advising of recent cougar sightings. Halfway up, I stopped to explore a use trail and came across these tracks. The terrain is dry, loose dirt so I know the tracks may be harder to identify. I'm guessing...

Re: Strawberry and Lawlor Still "Closed To Public Use"
Just hiked this today. Saw 3 other hikers. The trail is in pretty good shape, I didn't notice too much overgrowth or washed out areas. The tin box is still there, and no sign of a register.

Dawn Mine Trails (Millard Cyn)
Anyone know any open routes to Dawn Mine? Just went up EL Prieto canyon the other day, almost to Sunset Ridge, and overheard some people talking about hiking back from the mine that day. I passed Sunset Ridge and ended up at a waterfall, so didn't get a chance to find out. Googled it and read somewh...

What do you think of smartphone topo maps?
May have been asked before, just wondering what everyone thinks about smartphone offline topo map apps. Anyone ever tried any? I would assume they are ok for day hikes, nothing too extended. I've seen a few advertised and was curious on their productivity. My friend used hers when we did Mt. Lawlor,...
