Re: Baldy from the village + 3 T's
If you mean mileage to the notch, my map shows about 9.6 miles with 5744 ft. gain to baldy then 2224 ft. loss to the notch. If you are talking about baldy plus the 3 t's then my map shows aprrox. 20 miles including the road walk from icehouse to the village where you parked and a gain of just shy of...

C2C isn't reasonable to him. I brought the idea up to him because I am planning to take a few friends with ambitions to do the hike out later this year and he said probably not but he will think about it.

Re: Any S.G. hikers with some Sequoia N.F. experience?
I will second the previous posters and recommend either jennie lakes loop or the watchtower route to pear lake. On the second trip, I actually prefer camping at Emerald Lake because I like the views better there. That is a reasonably easy day hike in and a nice place to set up a base camp. From ther...

Re: "Death March" Scouting Trip - June 8
also just a thought, but june seems like it might be pretty warm in exposed areas...wouldn't it prudent to plan for just after the thaw or late fall when max temps would fall in the 70s to 80s? just after the thaw would mean that seasonal water sources would be flowing so research as to their locati...

Re: "Death March" Scouting Trip - June 8
water could be somewhat easily handled by having each person from the prospective group go out on a day hike and cache enough water for the group at a strategic points...it could be considered a training hike... wow that is some big mileage...i guess i should start training now!

Re: INTROS - New members, introduce yourself here!
Hmm...well we left from the village at 6:30 and summited at 10...we came down the devil's backbone not too long after that...maybe 10:15 so it is possible you were close, but I didn't see anybody descending the bowl...man that must have been an interesting descent... I only took pics of me at the p...

Baldy from the village + 3 T's
What a glorious day to do a big hike. The temps were reasonable, there was a slight breeze, and besides the summit and devil's backbone, the trails were somewhat deserted (go figure). Me and a friend of mine started from the church at 6:25 a.m. and held a pretty consistent pace to the summit at 10:4...

Excellent job at getting that summit...looks like, now that you have tackled the highest in the lower 48, it is time to start training for the highest in the 50

Re: "Death March" Scouting Trip - June 8
did you do the death march yet? I'm interested in the hike if you haven't. What kind of stats do you have on it? I'm sort of a masochist when it comes to hiking..so no whining bitching or complaining from me

Re: INTROS - New members, introduce yourself here!
Was on Baldy main trail this morning, kept me eyes open for anyone wearing a wide brimmed hat but did not see you. If you did the Three - T's and then backbone to the summit of Baldy you may have seen me, I was going straight down the face of the bowl on the north between 9:58 and 10:26 when I reac...

Re: INTROS - New members, introduce yourself here!
Hello all. I just joined this message forum to read about and plan new and exciting hikes that I haven't done yet in the area. A little about me. I am 29 years young, about to turn 30...but age is just a number. As far as my username...well its just a play on words...you know, "Use it or lose i...

Re: 2012 Basic Winter Mountaineering Clinic
Are there any plans for a clinic like this for this year? I would be interested in joining some experienced winter climbers to learn more. I have done some winter hiking, even did Baldy last winter, but I realize that I should learn how to do things properly and safely so I don't end up in the obitu...
