Re: So how does this government shut down effect us exactly?
public (government) debt has never been a real issue (it's at healthy levels) and has always been the biggest red herring for both parties to push their agendas. Federal government debt isn't a problem. The federal government can make all the money they need. They've been doing this with the "...

This is getting way outta hand....... Pay your taxes, vote, obey the laws, while we screw up the nation......yep the things I was taught, like For the people, by the people.....is not what they are doing. Boston Tea party time if you ask me my opinion. Lock and load, the crash is coming. IMHO. of co...

An interesting, new article from KCET's "Departures" titled "The Indigenous Dawn of the San Gabriel Mountains." Controlled burns to encourage the growth of edible plants. Not bad. http://www.kcet.org/socal/departures/sa ... tains.html Why anyone with that purty a feather knows t...

Re: Prairie Fork - Lupine Road (3N39)
Yeah...it was open. I parked at Guffy and ended up staying at Cabin Flats due to bowhunters at Lupine. Not my vibe. Also saw a couple of vehicles past Lupine which, according to the Forest Service, is off-limits. I asked a ranger once why they didn't at least have a sign saying it was a closed area...

Stupid shit....oh I'm all over it... Lol. Ain't that the truth! As I get used to the site and players I find more interest. I'm keeping an eye on any seminar type stuff you may do. While my days of falling off rocks with a web harness and beaners at Joshua tree in the late 70's is afar cry from the ...

Re: Santa Ana Mtns:Missing hiker found
Well put Z, while I agree the story line of the show is great, since the Harrison Act of 1912, the general "War on Drugs" has been pounded into the minds of the American people. I find that part ironic, not the show itself. It is a well told story. I for one am of the "sex drugs and r...

Funny, I'm not condoning or judging anyone's choice or my own, or the fools that are the subject of this thread, but I don't watch a lot of TV due to my gypsy lifestyle ( although I found I can get a signal when up at GUFFY and watch criminal minds nonstop on ch 30, wit my puter) lol . But while her...

Give you all the kudos! Ask me your protecting the animals from the "flat landers", not the opposite. Fainted and cost us what? Let alone the use of scare resources someone else REALLY may have needed. You guys do a great job, glad to ugh.... "meet" ya! Great group here, learning...

Re: Mtn Lion and Bobcat
That sounds like me after a good bender...... But seriously, makes sense. The impact on the animal is prime importance, I've never had any encounter that I would term Life Threating, but had a few, that are always interesting. No animal wants a confrontation, normally, but will fight to the de...

Re: Mtn Lion and Bobcat
It almost looks like the back of an ear tag in the lion's right ear. I'd be real interested if it was. No, we've zoomed in and checked. This is a female, middle of the San Gabes. Are there any with ear tags here aside from the male you got this spring in Glendale? Yeah, as I looked at it more the h...

Re: Mtn Lion and Bobcat
Great work and pics....I ran into a set of lion tracks on my last trip in. In two fairly displaced areas, made me think it was two different cats. Never saw them before, so that's a good part of the work done to preserve the beauty of them. Question. I was just reading Mammals of the San Gabrials by...

Re: Axes, not climbing ones though.
@rock.... Here are a couple of pics of one of my Daniel Winkler axes, made for the Teams. This, and its companions, are not on his website. The blurred area masks an amazing artistic image crafted *in* the damascus itself; other images you may find on the intertubes of damascus variants of this brea...

Re: big horn mine lost tunnel.
Found another tunnel down low on the very bottom of Mine Gulch, west face of rock wall, right at point that stream from vincent gulch hits the turn south of Mine Gulch if that makes sense, at about 75' up, trail long gone, fractured rock, falling apart. Hidden behind big yucca tree, looks interestin...

Having tromped the East fork since I was 16, some 40 yrs ago, I've seen many changes. I'm now back after a long hiatus and one thing that I noticed that was an eye opener was the lack of native trout up high. Was a time you could put 10 in your creel and eat like a king, but again overuse and the me...
