It started, as all the best things do, with a motorcycle ride. We rode up White Mountain Road, which is ten miles of deliciously twisty pavement before turning to dirt. The dirt continued, but it was too late for us to really explore, so we turned around.

I wondered, where does the road go? With ...

Not much to report, started up Iron Mountain. Got to the base of the first steep section (about 5 miles in), and it was too hot to continue. No shade + steep climb + 100 degrees = U-turn.

I'll try it again when it isn't so blasted hot.

Just saw this posted on the USDA Forest Service site. The station fire area is closed for yet another year, until May 25, 2014.
