Re: SNOW - Questions, Forecasts & Reports About Snow

After seeing those photos of Manker Flats...I am so glad we didn't venture up that way. Instead we parked at Three Points on ACH and played for a while. There were other families there, but not too many people. Then we drove to Jarvi Vista for lunch and more snow play. We headed downhill after 2pm a...

Re: SNOW - Questions, Forecasts & Reports About Snow

Thanks for the advice. After reading your comments about the Baldy area...and seeing the story on the 11pm Channel 4 news...I will be avoiding that area and will travel up ACH.

Thanks again!

Re: SNOW - Questions, Forecasts & Reports About Snow

Was thinking of taking my 5 year old for his first real snow experience. As I live by LAX, would like to avoid the drive to the San Bernardino Mountains. Any suggestions in the San Gabriels? I was thinking about the Manker Flats area...or do you think I should head up Hwy 2 (from the west)? Thanks f...

Bear Sighting on the Mt. Wilson Trail.

It was about 6:50am on Sunday, August 10. I was near the side trail that leads to the flat area that looks like a helicopter pad (between First Water and Orchard Camp). I hear a loud rustling on the hillside above the trail and stopped, knowing the noise was more then just a bird, lizard, or squirre...

Re: Mt. Baldy Trip Report for Fri or Sat, Oct 19 or 20

No ice or snow to be found anywhere yesterday. The wind was something else, however. It made for a difficult hike up the Ski Hut trail, especially that last part when you're on the ridge and hiking up the bowl. The gloves and wool cap plus multiple layers I wore kept me warm enough, but we only last...

Mt. Baldy Trip Report for Fri or Sat, Oct 19 or 20

Greetings! Will be taking a friend to Mt. Baldy's summit for his first time on Sunday the 21st. We plan on taking the Ski Hut Trail up. For those who have just hiked the summit, we were wondering: Any snow or ice on the trails/summit that we will encounter?

Thanks!

Re: Hiker attacked on Mt Baldy trail

After hiking Cucamonga and Etiwanda Peaks on Sunday, Sept. the 30th, I left the Icehouse parking lot at approximately 4:15pm. Between Baldy Village and the tunnels there were several Sheriff vehicles and paramedics parked along a turnout. It may have been the Stoddard Truck Trail. I didn't want to b...
