Re: Granite Mtn et Fils
I think they are probably of similar effort if you take the south ridge to Rattlesnake. Not as many ups and downs on Rattlesnake.

Pusch Peak, AZ
Pusch Peak (pronounced push) is in the Santa Catalina mountains in Tuscon, AZ. I intentionally got a late start at 10 AM to let the sun warm things a bit. The parking lot at the Linda Vista trailhead was full, about 15-20 cars. I parked in a nearby shopping center in front of a Dunn Edwards paint ...

Re: Morris Peak and Mount Jenkins
Thats a nice big day!
The High Sierra is awesome and all, but I always feel intrigued by all the surrounding 'lower' peaks that are still so rugged and oak-adorned like this one.
I am really in love with the southern Sierra around Ridgecrest. Owens Peak is a favorite and I've enjoyed several ...

Morris Peak and Mount Jenkins
With unusually warm weather for December, I drove to Walker Pass Trailhead for the standard route to Morris Peak (HPS #109) and Mount Jenkins (HPS #73). The trailhead is off highway 178 near Ridgecrest. I was greeted with a sunrise filtered through the joshua trees. Most of the hike was along the ...

Congrats on getting to the river and back in one day. It's a big hike. I think South Kaibab has better views than Bright Angel, but both are great.

Thanks for checking this out. This is one I've long avoided since I dislike private property inholdings and have gotten burned by police (well, warned) on closed Irvine Company trails. The signs on the fence suggest that hiking is OK as long you don't wander in the San Dimas forest. I'll keep in my ...

I hiked Emma -> Old Emma -> road back to truck in 2024. Solo.
There was a lot of trash on the Old Emma summit.

Big Horn Peak, AZ
I was in Phoenix for business and looked for an interesting mountain to hike on the way back. There are a lot good desert hikes close to the I-10 corridor. I settled on Big Horn Peak about an 1 hour 15 minutes west of Phoenix. From I-10, I exited at Salome Road. Google Maps suggested some oddball ...

The route is pretty obvious whether you do the ridge or stay in the gully. The summit is in sight most of the way.JeffH wrote: Wed Oct 08, 2025 7:21 pm Is navigation completely necessary or is it picking what appears to be the path of least rock and stickers?

Re: Pinto Mtn failure
I had two headlamps and I'm OK with night hiking, esp since it was near a full moon. The main issue was worries about the solo part, esp since I had a rock fall into me on nearby Eagle Mtn, breaking a rib, causing a small pneumothorax, and leading to overnight accommodations in Glendale Adventist ...

Re: Pinto Mtn failure
Pinto was pretty cool. It's on the DPS list so gets a little more traffic than otherwise. The summit had a unique cactus wire art thingy. Since the approach was long, it takes some time. You should give it another go when you have plenty of time.

Middle Yucaipa Ridge
There are seven HPS peaks along the Yucaipa Ridge, counting Galena. I had climbed five of them on previous hikes, and now I was going after the two middle peaks: Cedar Mountain (HPS #57) and Wilshire Peak (HPS #41). Between the two was Oak Glen Peak, almost unavoidable on the traverse. The closest ...

Not today. The tram wasn't running, so there was no temptation.
Tram always closes near the end of September for maintenance. Open again 10/13/25 this year.
Leatherneck is still on my to do list (maybe), but I am not up for hiking back down. Hard to beat a Shock Top at the bar before riding ...

25 is a short round trip for Kings. I went via Henrys Fork, spending two nights and the RT would be 34 miles if one stays on trail. We chopped a few off by skirting the ridge just after Gunsight pass and then scree-skiing down the other to get back into the basin. Lots of rock to cross up high ...

I hope to do Longs next summer.

Ahh, if you want to show the actual GPS tracks, I think CalTopo is a better solution, and also free (up to a certain number of maps).

I'm down to work on the spreadsheet but can you give me the columns that are absolutely necessary?
I recommend starting with a Google sheet. It's easier to share and free.
The bare minimum is name, latitude, and longitude.
The maximalist number of columns is what PeakBagger tracks:

Re: Hiking Map Project
So, at minimum, the spreadsheet needs columns for: trailhead/starting point, latitude, longitude, URL? Then a "description" would be nice too? Would the description be seen on the map display? I suppose the URL and description could be automated, if you just pull the description from the TR title ...

FYI, the popup info is generated from the underlying data and can be customized with whatever info you want to show. Only the latitude, longitude and name are required.
The hard part is building the spreadsheet with all the data you want.

A map like that can be created with the same tech stack. I could probably set it up on the same server that hosts the forum.
