Thanks for restoring the monument and benchmark. I can't believe it survived the bulldozing in such good shape.

Death Valley Buttes

My wife and I spent a couple of days in Death Valley with our kids. My plan was to hike Titanothere Peak and Thimble Peak, but access to both of those was on the closed Titus Canyon Road. Instead, we decided to climb the two Death Valley Buttes that are close to Daylight Pass Road. You can park alon...

Thank you for the report. That looked pretty sweet! I had to check a map to see where you were. Pretty deep in the Mojave and pretty far north.

I'll pass on the cactus licking.

Mount Emma, Old Emma, Cole Point

More pointless HPS peaks, well, Cole Point (HPS #222) is actually a "point" so by definition not pointless. All of these peaks are near Palmdale. I started at a turnout on Mount Emma Road where there was an official trail. Mount Emma (HPS #254) and Old Emma (HPS #274) are usually hiked tog...

Thanks for the beta. I tried to get Lewis early in the year before learning about the long term road closure. I also considered walking down the road as you did, but I'm not sure I want Lewis bad enough for a 12-miler. I think I'll wait until the road reopens. Really sad they painted over the benchm...

Congrats! And good thing no one shot at you. I didn't notice the stars punched out on the flag, just that it was in tatters. I had done Clamshell from below, so did not try to get it from Rankin. I think it's only a couple of miles, but probably 1000' below Rankin. Definitely doable with access to t...

Winston Ridge, Hillyer, Sally

On Friday, I knocked out more easy HPS peaks off the ACH. I had hiked Winston Peak as a warm up 10 years ago before my first hike with Sean to Twin Peaks. I got the Ridge this time, going over P6903 on the way. It's a nice area with sparse pines. The Winston Ridge register was in a circle of stones....

Re: Monrovia and Rankin

So how many miles total including Rankin? I'm also interested in Clamshell never been there so you have a route so that I can do all three? Thanks My trip was 4.6 miles, 1550' gain. You can drive all the way to the Monrovia firebreak, so cut off 2 miles from that. This links to a page where you can...

Cobblestone

Chief Peak

Hines Peak

Cathedral Peak

Eagle Rest Peak

DO NOT RECOMMEND: Santa Paula Peak. The trail goes through private property and has been restricted for several years. The legal way now is through Santa Paula Canyon and is a total suffer fest. Unavoidable poodle dog near the top.

Monrovia and Rankin

This is mostly a report about the Rincon Shortcut OHV road that starts by the Rincon Fire Station. To use this road, you need a permit from the Glendora Ranger Station (Mon-Th). Permits are good for two weeks and they change the gate lock combo every two weeks. They also give you a sticker to put on...

West ridge is a great route! Fun and memorable. Congrats! While I agree that most people can figure it out with chunky holds, mostly solid rock. Even through it is well marked with arrows, if someone got off track, it could quickly go to class 4. I can't think of another easily accessible class 3 ro...

That looks like a cool mountain. Is this the Indian Head (9000') east of Olancha and south of Kern Peak?

Whenever I hear Indianhead, I think of the one by Borrego Springs. I am a big fan of that one.

Looks like some great scrambling. Thanks for sharing!
