I am not sure about adding GPS tracks since that would have to come from a different data source (GPX files vs the CSV data imported for the hikes).
The map is using a program called Leaflet via a plugin called datasette-cluster-map ( https://datasette.io/plugins/datasette-cluster-map ). A ...

Hiking Map Project
I've been geeking out on a new hiking map over the last couple of months. I'm as excited about the tech as I am about the map.
I created an interactive map of my hikes ( https://ironhiker.cloud/hikes ) using the powerful Datasette tool by Simon Willison. The result was an intuitive, easy-to-use map ...

Thanks for the report. When you're done with the Irons, can you do the Sugarloafs? There are twenty of them in California alone.
Haha, I don't think so. Sugarloafs are so common!
There are also 20 Eagle Peaks in CA (without variations or Eagle Mountains).
Granites are also very common. I ...

Iron Mountains High Point
There are about 14 "Iron Mountains" in CA. One of my side projects is to climb all of them. These are strictly named "Iron Mountain", not including variations like Old Iron, Ironspring, North Iron, etc. I haven't researched all of them, but I doubt even the ones in the Sierra will be as difficult as ...

Re: Cobblestone mountain from Ant Camp
Amazing feat! I didn't think anyone else would ever attempt that ridge. It's hard enough from the regular trailhead (when it's open). The cool weather helps, but you used less than half the water Stillman did. Wow.

Love the off trail exploration and thanks for the report.
I hope you didn't have to crawl through much blackberry. I have no good memories of that stuff.
I wonder who the crazy people were that tried to build a cabin there, though at least you might have seasonal water.

No disrespect intended.

Was Stepladder still a visible landmark? I suppose worst-case scenario you could have back-tracked to Stepladder to re-orient and then descend the same way you came up?

Sorry, it is paywalled. I couldn't read the article and I didn't find new closure information on ANF web site.

Stepladder Mountains High Point
Sean and I made the long drive to the trailhead for Stepladder Mountains (DPS #94, 2940') on Friday and camped. Well, Sean set up a tent and I slept in the truck. From highway 95, there were 17 miles of good, then bad dirt roads. The powerline road was smooth, the pipeline road not as good, and ...

Death Valley Buttes
My wife and I spent a couple of days in Death Valley with our kids. My plan was to hike Titanothere Peak and Thimble Peak, but access to both of those was on the closed Titus Canyon Road. Instead, we decided to climb the two Death Valley Buttes that are close to Daylight Pass Road.

Mount Emma, Old Emma, Cole Point
More pointless HPS peaks, well, Cole Point (HPS #222) is actually a "point" so by definition not pointless. All of these peaks are near Palmdale.
I started at a turnout on Mount Emma Road where there was an official trail. Mount Emma (HPS #254) and Old Emma (HPS #274) are usually hiked together ...
