Re: Cobblestone Mountain via Redrum Ridge
David,
Just wanted to give you some props after looking through your site and reading the Thunderbolt report. I think T-bolt is the ultimate California bad ass peak. Well done!

Re: Cobblestone Mountain via Redrum Ridge
This sounds like a cool mountain. Everything in Ventura County is fresh to me. I think I'd try the HPS route before attempting your redrum route. I found this from a 2001 trip report: Coming off this peak, someone let a rock go and it ricocheted and gained speed, then smashed my left hand, breaking ...

Those are some nice photos.
I've never been on the Harding Truck Trail. Is it a wide dirt road like Main Divide? The 50 mountain bikers alone would probably keep me in other parts.

Our last dog was a Weimaraner, so I have a soft spot for them. Lots of energy, but I'm not sure ours would have climbed a boulder. Cool photos.

Flyin' over Zion
Did a standard loop over Zion yesterday: Forest Route 2N40 to the Gabrieleno trail into Santa Anita Canyon, to the Sturtevant trail, left on the Mount Zion trail, then Lower Winter Creek trail, and back up Forest Route 2N40. The twist on this one was the DJI Phantom quad copter Rod purchased earlier...

Occasionally, Irvine PD has volunteer patrols drive on Serrano Ridge Road and Bommer Road. I've never seen anyone official on any of the single track trails.

Rico,
Yeah, it is a fun area. The network of trails connects Laguna Coast to Crystal Cove so the variations are endless.
The toll road opened in 1996 I think. It must have been a little more of a wilderness then.

OC Peaklet 5-pack
A string of peaklets in the Laguna Coast "Wilderness" rise along the San Joaquin Hills Tollway (Hwy 73). They offer a surprising amount of fun for an urbanesque setting, especially Peak 808, which is not easy to find and has a 45 degree dirt scramble if approached from the south. I started...

Awesome shots, Rico.
I like Saddleback island in the sea of clouds. The front range is the only place I've looked down on a solid blanket of clouds/fog that stopped around 4000'. Cool visual.

Yeah, not much poison oak. There was a little on the upper Trabuco Canyon trail, but easily avoided.

Was the rock not crumbly crap? I think that is the direction my friends and I started errantly last year but turned back before any 5.x sections.
And yes, awesome ledge shots.

Sean C's P-8 insanity workout! I was on Potato(e) 2 weeks ago and completely missed that little trail to the east firebreak. Clear as day in Google earth. That firebreak doesn't look too friendly just before it hits the road. The south firebreak looks interesting, but maybe not steep enough for your...

Wikipedia will show you how to manually do the conversion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic ... conversion but I think you should always delegate that to a computer: http://www.earthpoint.us/convert.aspx There are many other coordinate systems: UPS, MGRS, USNG, Georef, Maidenhead, and State P...

Vicker BM, Yaeger Mesa, Horsethief Peak
On Sunday, I didn't know scottawr had just gone up to the mesa from the bottom of the Trabuco Canyon trail. It was one of three stops I made on a balloon style loop coming down from the top of Trabuco Canyon. I hit Vicker BM above the Los Pinos saddle, then down Trabuco Canyon to the Yaeger Mesa, re...

Re: Hidden Gem of the Santa Ana Mountains- Yeager Mesa
I poked around for the plane wreck but could not find it, but I didn't look too hard though. Did you go up the ridge? or did you follow the trail that looks like a downhill mountain bike racetrack? that's an odd way to do the trabuco/horsethief loop but after going down the bumpy trabuco canyon roa...

Re: Hidden Gem of the Santa Ana Mountains- Yeager Mesa
Great photos of the mesa! By an odd twist of fate, I visited the mesa on Sunday, but I came down from upper Trabuco after going over Vicker BM, then back up West Horsethief trail, and over Horsethief Peak. I initially missed the Yaeger trail and wasted some time looking for it before I found it. htt...
