Or you could shorten it up and emerge at Sycamore Canyon where your ride could have cold cerveza and a campsite waiting for you. :D You obviously make better hiking plans than me. When I got back to the Chumash parking lot off PCH, it was completely full, before 7 AM on a Wednesday. Popular place. ...

Maybe you discovered a grow operation. Nice photos, but every other one was loaded with poison oak. I am recovering from some right now, forgot how unpleasant the experience is.

Did some Sierra Club lower peak house cleaning on 4/16 in the Malibu area. I started the morning at the Chumash trail turn out just off the PCH and did the one hour round trip to Mugu Peak. Because of the marine layer, there was no poster worthy sunrise and not much to see. https://eispiraten.com/im...

A harrowing experience. Glad you are OK and hopefully the other driver was, too. As a WRX owner, I want to state for the record that it wasn't me. I drive like a nun on twisty mountain roads. I've seen more consistent speeding by drivers on ACH than on Mount Baldy Road. I've always considered gettin...

First blood moon of the year April 15, 2014
A spokesperson for NASA has said, "This is the first eclipse of the year and is well placed for observers throughout the Western Hemisphere. It will occur at the lunar orbit's ascending node in Virgo." The first Blood Moon is scheduled to appear in the sky at about 3.07 a.m. ET on April 15...

It was my first [intentional] night hike. The obvious benefits, cooler, less water needed, no sunburns. Great fun and not my last night hike. However, I love day time views of the mountains. BTW, you have to hop a fence or squeeze through a gate when you come down Jones after dark. The park and the ...

OK, after reading the first few captions, I fooled myself into thinking this was another April Fool's post. But you seriously did a 15 mile urban half-marathon. Then, I went back to take a closer look. Nice change of pace, but I prefer the dirt ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Mountain lion killed after stalking family on O.C. trail
http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-0402 ... 8704.story There is something about this small Whiting Ranch park that makes lions aggressive. I've walked by the spot where two attacks happened in 2004 and where they trapped another lion in 2012. You can see houses from almost any place in this park. I...

Thanks for the write up. A very interesting and useful report, even if you didn't make it up the SW ridge. No doubt that is a rough and tumble area. With your clothes intact, you can always make another run.

Reminds me of the Dana point sea cave area. For being so close to the coast there isn't a whole lot of beach hiking other the crystal cove. Yeah, not much around the OC. San Onofre has some good beach hikes. I've read Torrey Pines is great if you feel like making the trip to San Diego. Or Malibu in...

Goff Island
Goff Island is a landmark in Laguna Beach below the Montage Resort. It is rock formation that juts 42' above sea level. During high tides, water surrounds it, making it a temporary island, but most of the time you can make it to the island without getting wet. I was lucky enough to drag my wife out ...

I relied on a GoPro for most of the photos on this trip which was a big mistake. It takes pretty good video, but not so good photos (IMO). The poor photos didn't reduce the enjoyment of the hike one bit. Big Butch Wash was great fun, and a much better way to get to the notch than the road or trail u...

Nice trip, Rico.
Jones is still on my to do list. I think it would be a cool night hike. The view of the city on a clear night would make a nice reward.
I don't know the back story on the "Fight On" hiker. I'm guessing that is a USC reference.
