Re: Fish Canyon Access Trail
That was fast. I thought they were going to build a new trail. Instead, it sounds like they just created a fenced off pathway on the road through the quarry. More fun to go over the Van Tassel Ridge the old fashioned way, but is less pleasant coming back that way. Plus, there probably won't be any f...

Nice one, Rico!
IMO, the Twin area is the most beautiful area of the ANF, at least the parts I've seen. Willie and Sean drank straight from that spring being the wild mountain men they are.

Mt. Muir with one essential
Kinda slow around here, so I'll contribute something. Mount Muir is #8 on the Sierra Club Great Lower Peaks list. It sits (sort of) between Echo Mountain and Mt. Lowe overlooking Castle Canyon. I chose to approach it from the north at Eaton Saddle so I could do a canyon style hike with the gain on r...

Re: Mt. Baldy, gliders and missed opportunities
Today I hiked Baldy via Register Ridge and as an experiment on my way down via Ski Hut, I decided to engage every party I met in some kind of conversation to see reaction. For your next experiment, try telling them you are putting together a Women of Baldy calendar, and would like them to "wor...

Most weekends, there are groups of hang gliders jumping from South Main Divide Road over Lake Elsinore in the Santa Anas.

Re: Tresspassing Etiquette or Not
There is a ridiculously funny exchange currently going on at the Bob Burd website in regards to trespassing on private "ranch" lands. Besides the fact that the comments are straight out of a Yosemite Sam cartoon, the anger is about occurrences that happened over a year ago. Do you have a ...

Re: Los Padres Trifecta: Sewart, Cobblestone, and White
Big hike. It took us three hours from the Verdugo Park and Ride just to get to the trailhead. R-e-m-o-t-e. It starts off easy, then builds to the final 1000' slog back up Sewart over 500 dead trees. We saw 4 deer and some jack rabbits with oversized ears, but they were all too fast for us to photo. ...

Re: Pacific Crest Trail (Cajon - Little Jimmy - Soledad)
seems strange that backpacking in the wilderness did not put them in the best of moods. i totally agree with you, but as both an at hiker and a pct hiker told me independently of each other, "to you it's a day hike, to me it's a job." all they do is walk, eat and sleep. doesn't seem like ...

Harrison is #6 on the Lower Peaks list at 4743'. It sits just off highway 330 as you head toward Big Bear. https://eispiraten.com/images-archived/photobucket/i1183/albums/x471/tekewin/Harrison/A38C2883-089A-4073-A944-9D26C0EA4479_zpslcanfxhh.jpg Harrison from the freeway It was supposed to be short ...

Nice hat! And you are wearing it correctly, with the nose guard in front. You'd be surprised how many people put it on backwards. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Re: Surviving a Death March Attempt
Thinking about the dramatic change in the weather this week, and what summer and winter are like, the window for even attempting the death march is pretty small. While the distance and gain are already close to ultra, they don't capture the difficulty of the x-country and all the high elevation. The...

Hard core canyon drop.
I usually learn something from trip reports, even for places I never plan to go. And current beta is always useful for people who follow. Keep doing TRs.

Private Canyon must be very private. I can't find it on Caltopo.com. Nipple Chute sure makes a point. Fine place to "teat"ch rock climbing so you don't look like a boob. I'm still trying to remove the thorn-tips from my palms. But I guess it was worth it for the views. Every thorn has it's...

Cactus to Clouds 4/27/2014
Sean and I drove out to Palm Springs for the full C2C, starting at 3:15 AM. I parked in the Palm Springs Art Museum parking lot, but found a parking violation warning on my windshield when I returned. Better to park in the Free Parking structure across the street to avoid being towed. The lower part...

JeffH, Glad your knee held up. Hopefully, a full recovery is near. Potato is a crowded place almost every day, but I do like the view of big bad Ontario from there. Poison oak is just nasty. Apparently, it doesn't bother Taco, but I just healed up from a 2 week blisterfest for my carelessness. https...
