Whoa. That looks super cool. Thanks for posting. How often does that place get visitors? What does the register say? Very popular since it's on two Sierra Club lists. 343 attempts in Peakbagger. The register went back to 2015, lots of names. The entry before mine was 9/25/22. It's less than a 3 hou...

Owens Peak
Owens Peak (8,453') has a striking profile from highway 395 in the southern Sierra. It is the highest mountain in a 17 mile radius and is featured on multiple lists: HPS #49 and SPS #239. It is a P2K and was designated an HPS Star Emblem. I left the OC at 3:20 AM for the trailhead at the end of Indi...

Yeah, and there is this ...the best swimming hole in the whole state..wow! https://sportssd.iheart.com/featured/er ... alifornia/ Heh? Is there actually something noteworthy there (Colby Canyon, Daisy Canyon junction)? I don't remember ever seeing anything. I took a quick look at Caltopo and it loo...

Re: Snakes On A Plain - A Crazy Rattlesnake Infested Prairie In Colorado Springs
Beautiful photos. Sad news about the 6-year old. Your video editing skills are pretty advanced. Good job. That plain seems pretty dangerous with a high density of rattlesnakes. Dima can swap skull cleaning techniques with you. The few I've tried to clean up, I used hydrogen peroxide. I only I've sav...

Thanks for the report and photos. I've only driven to Guffy, not sure I want to chance the road to Lupine. This report got me interested in the area again. Maybe I can make it out there later this year.

Have you been up Mt. Gould? Seems like an easily accessible 13er. I could be persuaded if you wanted to give it a go sometime. Are you talking about Mt Gould by Kearsage Pass? I attempted it but was too exhausted to finish. This was a few years ago. I would love to go back when I'm in better shape....

Thanks for the report and BCS reference. I only have the last season to watch. I tried to do Goode in the snow once (also as a side-trip) but I didn't study the route and failed. Looks like fun at the top. I really like the last season of BCS. Some of my friends thought it was boring. The second ha...

That's a substantial "up" day. I've not really been into that basin. Went to Marie Louise Lakes once, but that's it. Swampy. I've looked at CalTopo and contemplated Agassiz in the past. Not that it looked that way from the topos, but from your pics, it don't look easy. For Agassiz, you le...

When I walked up to Ruwau Lake I somehow lost the trail, so I just looked at the lake for a couple hours while pondering my sense of direction. Also spent a while extracting the lens cap from my camera out of some rocks. The trail was slightly overgrown in parts, but ran close to the lake shore aro...

On our second day in Bishop last weekend, my wife and I hiked up to Blue Lake and Dingleberry Lake. Our photos aren't as good as yours, but it was very beautiful. There were a mix of people on the trail. Backpackers, fishermen, and day hikers like us. There are sooooo many lakes and ponds there, eve...

My wife and I spent a long weekend at Parcher's Resort outside Bishop. We planned one hike from South Lake and the other from Sabrina. As an aside, we had been training for my wife's attempt on Whitney. In the last month, she broke her pinky toe and we both got covid, so our planned 9/1 attempt is p...

Nice teke. Looks like you had an amazing day. That range is still unexplored by me. My anti long-drive obstinacy doesn't permit me to visit nice places like this for a day hike. The San Bs are nice, worth the drive. My perspective has become skewed after years of seeking the new. The first time I d...

Re: Hell For Sure Loop
Thanks for the report. That's a heck -- I mean hell -- of a hike. I think the devil has been up to some mischief on that ridge route. He probably possesses the feeble-minded and makes them mess things up. Haha, well, there is still massive burn damage across most of the ridge. Could be the work of ...

AKA Ten Thousand Foot Ridge Traverse in the San Bernardino Mountains. I started at Fish Creek trailhead. The 7 miles of dirt road to reach it are in good shape, but a few big rocks suggest high clearance. A sedan going slowly could make it. Here were all the peaks in the order of the loop: Peak 9580...

Awesome photos! Such a nice area. Are the mosquitos seasonal, do they ease up in August?
The closest I've been is around South Lake and I don't remember bad mosquitos in August.

Nice pix and thanks for the update. I've done the ski hut trail 10 gazillion times, but even after all these years I've yet to do the Mount Baldy Death March (MBDM), er, I mean the Bear Flat Trail. It never seems to work out. It's still on my "to do" list though. Particular congrats to yo...

Nice write up. Nice pics. Looks like a nice trip. I thought it would be just a dusty desert up there. Nice to see there's a lot more to it. What was your total mileage if I may ask? HJ Yeah, the desert turns to beautiful green meadows and forests up there. Round trip was 21.6 miles, 6410' gain.

I was looking for the most recent report on the Bear Canyon trail to make a few comments. My wife and I just completed our first up/down but didn't think it warranted a new post. Completed my Baldy trail superfecta (all maintained trails). Only took me 10 years. Initial thoughts: It was harder than ...

Let's see what our schedules look like late fall or early spring. I can backpack in the first day, but might want to hike out the second day depending on how the final section of the creek goes. Do you think the boundary is marked?

Great report, HJ. It's my backyard, too, and I've made many trips into San Mateo and Bluewater. Got most of my good cougar vids in Bluewater, not far from the first switchback going uphill. I've seen that bypass trail to Tenaja Falls a dozen times and sort of wondered why it was there. Never been on...

Bummer on the covid. It can take a long time to get back to 100%.
I've never been up that trail, must fix some day.
How was the strawberry frosty? I was not impressed with vanilla.
