The loop was: Register Ridge -> Harwood -> Devil's Backbone -> Thunder Mountain I hit zero snow. There was a single patch of snow on the north side of Harwood, but it will be gone soon. I did the simple up and back from Cow Canyon last year specifically to improve my route finding. There is a faint use trail all the way but you have to pay attention. I remember the gain being pretty stiff for a short hike.

I didn't know about the other approaches.

Um, no. My Baden-Powell plans fell through this weekend anyway. By the time I make it there, hopefully most of the snow will be gone.

Love-hate is a perfect description of Big Iron.

I went up solo last summer and I think fondly on the experience. The mountain destroyed my shorts on the way down from scree falls, but I loved it. Great confidence builder.

But what I can't understand - [then again, I've never gone off trail like they did and run out of water] how did they start hallucinating so quickly ??? This was my exact thought process. I don't buy the hallucinating the first night story unless they ingested something that made them hallucinate. ...
