Re: Backcountry bobcat

This is a custom camera rig that Denis (Vermenton) built. A Canon 40D with two off-camera flashes. I waited 6 months for a particular @#4*(!! lion to walk by - before this camera was there he came through at least once a month. But nooooo. Anyway the bobcat was a nice consolation prize. I've...

Re: Obama to designate chunk of San Gabriel Mountains a national

Yeah...this is a pretty big deal but with SO FEW DETAILS available I'm not sure how to feel about it. I read the proposed bill and it's a lot of "this is what won't happen." It appears that the report about what will happen isn't due for another three years. I did see that the BLM lands w...

Etiwanda Peak via Icehouse Canyon: 30 August 2014

What the heck. It was warm and why not go to elevation to cool off? Besides, we have Whitney in a couple of weeks and we needed the tune-up. The middle section of the Icehouse Canyon Trail was a mess from the rainstorm a few weeks ago. Paths criss-crossed the area but we eventually found the trail. ...

Looks like a type of yellow-star thistle which is common in Northern California. Like Cougarmagic said: It needs to be destroyed.

IF the Pro Cycling Challenge is the race I'm familiar with, that's a bicycling road race that requires closing down paved roads , not dirt tracks, trails, and unimproved dirt forest roads. It'd be something like closing down roads for a marathon here in the L.A. basin. A better example might be the...
