FS: $190.00 Moosejaw Credit

I recently returned a brand new Osprey Aether 60 and I was hoping to get refunded as I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Zpacks Arc Haul. But unfortunately, due to the purchase not being very recent I received Moosejaw credit. ($191.25) I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in buying the credit...

Re: Hikers Rescued in Eaton Canyon

I have a Home Security false alarm and the City of Long Beach charges me $75 for dispatching police. (To which I hung out with and chatted on my sidewalk for a few minutes afterwards. My alarm seemingly not interrupting an emergency.) A couple gets SAR helicopter called out for negligence and they g...

Re: 2016-10-10: Bailey Canyon Bear Encounter

A friend of mine had a bear siting early September. He was on a Boy Scout outing with his son. I don't remember where they camped but they left out of Chantry Flats. The one they saw was not very big according to his fuzzy nighttime picture and behaved pretty harmlessly.

Re: Wrightwood zip lines shutdown

Interesting. I went on 3 zip tours back when it was Navitat. Had great experiences, great customer service and great guides. All zip lines had a form of a braking system. I wonder if requirements changed and Big Pines was slow to update. Even when riders were coming in hot, the guides were able to s...

Re: Timber Mtn

Nice pics. Hiked to Timber on Saturday 4/9 in the rain, hail and little bit of snow. Excellent day out. Not crowded at all for a Saturday, rain kept all but the die hards away. And I came across the obligatory group of young people in shorts and hoodies in the rain, getting drenched and frozen.

Ya I was pretty exhausted. And taking it safe and slow since I was solo. My hiking partner wasn't able to join me.

I recommend KT Tape to your friend for blister prevention.

Re: Another death! Mt Harwood on Saturday.

I can't remember a year where there's been this many accidents/fatalities in one month. For the two that fell and survived, Yaktrax don't really cut it. The four guys I saw at Baden-Powell all had crampons, only 2 had ice axes. They had all heard and were aware of the accidents, the people milling a...

Baden-Powell 2-20-16

Headed up to Vincent Gap with the hope of summiting but the intention of trying out some new boots (see my Gear Review). I got to the parking lot a few minutes after 7:00 am on Saturday 2/20. There was only one other car in the lot. As I was getting out I saw a couple headed down the trail to Big Ho...

Re: Mountaineering Boot Recommendations: (REVIEW POSTED)

Saturday I headed up Vincent Gap to try the new boots out on the way to Baden-Powell. The conditions were ideal for these boots plus crampons. (I've posted a short TR). The first bit of trail was dry, then microspikes were soon needed. In my regular boots I'm able to feel the constriction from the e...

I'm planning on hitting Baden-Powell this Saturday. If anyone has some first-hand info on current conditions, please let me know. The latest I'm aware of is mostly based on the video from the recent rescue due to the older man who slipped on the ice and had to be rescued. Very curious about the ridg...

Thanks for the feedback. I picked up the Lowa's this weekend. My feet tend to get cold so I went the insulated route. The were comfortable right out of the box like other reviewers have said. And I found the LaSportivas to be a bit narrow and cramped in the toe box, also as other reviewers have indi...

Re: Ice House Canyon Trail

I appreciate the impact the day had on SAR. Pretty apparent by Lisa Woll's account, who was one of the people who found Dong Xing Liu and his wife. They waited for hours and were told they had already been picked 3 times. Yikes. I met a couple volunteers in San Jacinto who tried to "recruit&quo...

Just called this morning. Trails are still closed. The person I spoke with has no information on when they'd be open. Ridiculous. You wait all year for snow and ice to use your gear and then they close the trails.

Mountaineering Boot Recommendations: (REVIEW POSTED)

I'm looking into getting some sturdier, and warmer boots for winter hiking. I currently wear Salomon Quest 4D GTX, but my toes tend to get cold when the toe box gets a bit of snow or ice on it from either post holing or snowshoeing. As mentioned, I'd like to get something warmer (insulated) and beef...

Re: Mt. Baldy trails closed and another death

"Authorities say the hikers were not equipped to walk the trails that have become ice-covered because of melting snow." I hiked Icehouse Canyon on Jan. 8. I'd say 90-95% of the people I passed on the way down were not prepared for the conditions. Many young college age kids had soaked tenn...

Hi, does anybody have an online source for water availability for various trails in So Cal. I had found a resource a few years back but have not been able to find it again. Where to buy Kahtoola Microspikes

Looking for suggestions on where to buy these. Maybe because its towards the end of the season but they are seeming to be pretty scarce. Amazon still has most sizes available but I'm looking for brick and mortar suggestions. REI is not stocked, neither are some other obvious sports chains.

Thanks!

Headed up Thursday to take advantage of the recent storm and fresh snow it left behind. I hit the TH about 9:45 am.
