Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024

This past week I've managed to clear most of the vegetation on the trail to Bailey Canyon Falls. It's a short trail. The tread needs a lot more work which I'll try to get to this week and next. But it's worth the 30 minutes or so to go see the falls which, surprisingly to me, are still flowing well ...

Re: Crystal Lake Trail Question (Lost Ridge)

Is the Lost Ridge Trail also referred to as the Sunset Ridge Nature Trail? IMG_8930.jpg The sign above was somewhere near the upper part of the Lost Ridge Trail I think. I did the Lost Ridge Trail in 2011 and it was tree fall, bushy hell. Tree fall - an easy one. I didn't take pictures of the rough ...

Re: Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024

I conned Sean into doing a survey of this route today. We'll see if any of his ideas ever get implemented! lol

Seriously - thanks to Sean for giving me some really good ideas and tips.

Re: Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024

A pleasant Sunday morning, so I attempted to improve this creek crossing (#6). Also, playing around with Photoscape X.

Re: Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024

Another section that we re-routed to get the trail away from the creek bed.

Old trail followed creek bed on left, new trail on right.

Re: Sasquatch

I've figured out where Sasquatch is living. https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/angeles/alerts-notices/?aid=72376 There's a massive cover up. They are trying to fool us by claiming there is an endangered frog, when in fact ol' squatch is living unmolested and feeding on frog's legs this whole time. Basta...

Re: Mount George Davis

Nice trip. Nice pics. Thanks! Reminds of the days (15-20 years ago) when "Georgey Porridgey" was roaming the San Gabriels posting nasty notes in the registers. He apparently wasn't a fan of the Sierra Club. Though he didn't seem to mind the actual registers since he used them to get his me...

I post it here because you can clearly see Phillips Point in the distance (upper left corner of picture). Duh, Homey!

Re: Forum Anniversary - Monte Cristo Edition

Missed it again. Looks like fun (except the fellow campers blaring music - tools). So sad to see the trees on Granite and Round Top gone. Here's a picture of Granite taken from Round Top 15 years ago... IMG_2958.jpg And just for fun, a similar pic to one posted above (also from 15 years ago)... IMG_...

Re: Forum Anniversary - Monte Cristo Edition

So sad to see the trees on Granite and Round Top gone. Here's a picture of Granite taken from Round Top 15 years ago... I was wondering what that looked like before the Station Fire, and this photo is exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks. How far below Granite did the trees extend to? Did Rabbit ha...

Re: Akawie, Vetter, Mooney, and Devil

In 2007 I did the same 3 peaks one day (minus Akawie).

In April 2009 I was able to drive up to the observatory although the road was heavily rutted.

Looks like they've painted and changed doors since 2009...

Re: Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024

It's October 15th, 2024 and the falls are still going! 20241014_094451.jpg I spent this morning eliminating a pair of unnecessary water crossings. Some volunteer fig tree had seemingly forced the route into a quick back and forth crossing that got your shoes wet for no reason. A view looking down st...

Will Thrall just sounds cool. Also my favorite peak in the range. I was greeted by a Golden Eagle when I made it to the summit.

Re: Mount Emma, Old Emma, Cole Point

Fun hike despite having no point. I did the Emmas the same way. The Karen on Old Emma looks like it has been knocked about a bit! Circa 2009... IMG_2897.jpg The BM on Cole is (was in 2009) attached to a rock that has been kicked around the summit so god knows where it is now. I found the rock on its...

Re: Bailey Canyon Falls: July 2024

Removed above ground part of fig tree stump and groomed a bit. Gif Av2.gif edit to add a story: early last month I went up to remove the stump (level it off at ground level), but a young man came along and asked if I was going to transplant the fig tree. I said no, just going to level it off - it's ...
