Went on a winter backpack trip to Dry Lake with ODC this weekend. 12 of us hiked to dry lake, using snow shoes most of the way. Snow ranged in depth from 6" to 2 feet from the trail head to dry lake and 3+ feet up higher. Weather was very pleasant with lows in the 30's and very little wind at camp. Sunday morning 4 of us headed out for San G. We took the middle chute up to the ridge. We snowshed most of the way, except for the last 700 vertical feet or so where it became very icy. Once we gained the ridge the wind was blowing really hard, and blowing snow all over the place. Views were excellent with the San Gabriel's, San J, and the Sierras in sight. We took the chute back down, broke down camp and made it back to the cars by 4:00.
