Rain totals

Here's what the county rain gauges say:

(from the LADPW site). Apparently the San Gabriels didn't get as drenched as the Hollywood hills.

According to both of these, there's a ton of variability from spot to spot. Do we know if it actually does vary this much? Measurement error?

I don't personally know, but I look at these totals every year and the variability, at least when it comes to the Los Padres, is pretty much what you see every year. Based on that, I've always thought the totals were pretty accurate.

I've been working out of Beverly Glen - looks like that area got about the worst of it.

Considering the topography, I think the variability in rainfall totals is believable. Lots of orographic lift and rain shadows.

Yeah. Now that I look at Uncle Rico's map again, I believe it. The medium-hit areas (yellow in his map) are clearly clustered, and not distributed randomly. So they're displaying some real effect. Interesting!
