Congrats Norma, this is a great photo. White and blue goes well together. Too bad we won't be seeing those colors around here again for awhile.

God, I hate the heat. I can't wait for it to be fall already.

i hate the heat too. i find it funny when people say they can't wait for the snow to melt so they can get back out and hike! i prefer hiking in snow, but i gotta admit you can't beat the Sierra backcountry in summer. pretty outstanding.

i hiked my local mountain Boney Mountain on Saturday and nearly passed out. it was insane. felt like i was in an oven.

Dave G and i beat the heat yesterday by hiking Baden-Powell, Burnham and Troop. We even placed a new register on Burnham. San G-er's need to get up there and sign it! To keep us cool we filled our bandanas with snow and tied them around our necks and kept snow in our hats. we ain't no dummies! i'll post pix as soon as i load them.

thanx for using the photo Taco! it was chance that i caught the snow falling.

No problemo.

Can't wait for it to snow again... can't wait for the next ice age. 8)

Symbolic under the circumstances, especially with the "indefinite" closure...

I can put it up if y'all want to. I figured it was humor fitting for the times, though kinda sad to log on and see that.

I can see the humor in it (yeah, gallows humor), but the average person would probably be offended.

Just a thought, but that would look neat if it said "Death Valley National Park" on the sign. Considering the weather out there this time of year, 'ya wonder why the signs on the main entrance roads don't just spontaniously combust in the Valley's heat.

I am not saying post it for the humor, but post it because it is real. The forest is closed until this thing is out. As much as it sucks, it is reality right now.

And that's Bighorn off to the right with Baldy dead in the center I'm assuming. :D

Bighorn, yes, and that's Telegraph Peak's south summit and south face at center, with Timber to the right, and Baldy and Harwood to the left.

OK, since it's kinda sorta somewhat spring, sorta.... kinda... let's get a new header up. Submit your pics now!

Format will be basically what's up there now, so just copy that and find out the dimensions. Fancy writing might be nice.

Nothing personal, Norma. It's a lovely picture. But if the format were different, I would suggest this one, since it's more in keeping with the quality of our local rock:

We need a new photo for the header at the top of the page, something signalling the change of the seasons to Spring. The photo should be a panorama of approximately the same dimensions as the one above.

Post your choice and let's vote or something! Democracy now, harumph harumph harumph!

Going out on alimb here, but I'd say Hikin Jim's picture was taken in late fall/early winter on Seven Mile Road at the north end of Soda Lake at the Carrizo Plain Natl Monument.  I believe the high point on the right (in the background mtn range) is Mt. Pinos.

FYI:  Was out at Carrizo yesterday coming back from Pinnacles Natl Monument.  Stopped for an hour and had a picnic lunch on top of Soda Lake Overlook to just enjoy the amazing view and the quietness all around (nobody else there at mid-day on Wednesday).  Yes, the wildflowers are just beginning to bloom, but I'm always more impressed with the expansive view and the quiet.

That's Death Valley.  Just wanted people to be aware of how nice the San Gabs are after the snow melts off.

Just a few from this past winter.
