I joined some friends in Death Valley for a fun climb of Peak 5405, aka Ah-So, which lies about a mile west of Corkscrew Peak, via a long and somewhat complicated route. It was still too early for wildflowers, but we enjoyed perfect spring weather and it was nice to be off snow and on dirt for a change. Gotta go back soon for Telescope Peak! http://www.flickr.com/photos/21042415@N ... 653458367/

Not a lot of snow up there! Looked like an enjoyable outing.

The best thing about the desert...the contrast. The pictures are amazing, makes me want to go. Nice report

ah-yes! nice photos Dave. :D looked like a great desert hike with great friends.

what? you really didn't miss wearing stiff boots, putting on crampons, trying to keep your balance between frozen snow and rock then taking off crampons with frozen straps? ah-come on! it's ah-so fun!

hey, yesterday while driving home on 395 south of Lone Pine i looked east across Owens Dry Lake and could see Telescope, Bennett and Rogers peaks! I had no idea they could be seen from there. pretty cool!

i also need to get to DV before spring ends too.
