Welcome Homestead blog to the history section

For whatever reason, this blog has a number of entries regarding the San Gabriel Mountains. I dont know why....it looks like someone gifted a house and this public interest is in business. Anyways, I thought it was impressive...certainly. Its funny that the info is housed by the City of Industry, wh...

Well, I doubt they were thinking too far ahead in 1934....considering that Cogswell as built as a backup(in a hurry). https://dpw.lacounty.gov/wrd/Projects/C ... l&site=wrd I admit its a wokey/wonky/strategic subject, and that guy chained himself to a tree at Devils Gate. Maybe a trigger warning...

Yes I can ride my bike up Highway 39 and get passed by 40 cars but apparently sharing West Fork road with the occasional dump truck is a public safety hazard They don't want you to witness all the bodies they'll be pulling out of the reservoir. They have been unsuccessful removing sediment ever sin...

Re: EAGLE MOUNTAIN ATTEMPT

People keep on saying that hiking solo is more dangerous then hiking with groups. I have disagreed for ever and this story is a classic why groups are usually more dangerous, there are too many variables of decision making and skill set. I would reckon the strongest hiker could have finished this h...

How many people were in this group? Navigation is an art, not a science. Anybody who has gone with me the painter, throws away their gps so to speak, at least once we get off the beaten path. PLB uses the SAR satellite...thee official. Otherwise you are having someone else contact SAR. Ham Radio , you can contact someone else too. There was a case of a snakebite, and the person got the plb to work and in time. It also generated a lengthy discussion on surveillance too(gulp). Probably sol...

I think its like a safety blanket...yeah, but I think you have to find out where you can use it...and hike there. Maybe they add the area in someday but till then. PLBs are for the search and rescue...not In-reach/SPOT...but I think of em as surveillance and so which one is in the lead? Starlink heh...

Depends on the X-C terrain scale...the more the scale the more I am skeptical. First question is.."who does this?" And at say, 6 on the scale, ...few people design for it. By that time, you are wearing gloves and have a good clue what works. You can look at Oboz, and know its limitation, b...

There's a lot to praise and little to criticize about the firefighting efforts in California over the last few years. They saved Idyllwild, Forest Falls, Angelus Oaks, and South Lake Tahoe, all of which is impressive as hell. An area like the western part of the San Bernardino Peak Divide Trail is ...
