Looking for a "fun" hike this weekend-was planning on Ice house to Timber, but looks like snow-so I need something else-will be going with daughter-last weekend was 7 miles with 3,000 ft elevation gain-think this was her Max, so something similar-was thinking possibly Strawberry peak Or? T...

I've always gone straight up! The gate is right at Cow canyon turnout (Its new) big Black wrought iron gate

Was wondering if anyone new if the gate is open at Cow Canyon turnout-Thinking about going up there this weekend-last time I was there (went to Sunset peak) there was a nice gentleman behind the gate-said that the plan was to have a "walkthrough" for hikers, but to keep out the Riff raff-O...

Thanks everyone for the ideas! we settled on Iron Mountain-everything people had said-HARD, exposed to sun & HOT! I went through over 6 liters of water and Freya (My dog) went through 3+ liters! That was a LOT of water weight to start the hike with-I REALLY think Mt Whitney will be easy(er) now ...

Any word on this trail opening sooner? I pulled a Whitney permit in August and would love to include this hike in my training! If not, could someone suggest similar? I am doing Ice House to Timber at least once a week as it is close to my house

Thanks-will plan on several of these-have done a decent amount of "scrambling up in the Sierras deer hunting but not peak specific (mostly off of & around McGee creek-these are areas that I can do more frequently-what would you suggest as a solid class 3?

Nope-but along the same line was wondering about Cucamonga Peak -was thinking about "doing it" on Sunday.....Whats everyones thoughts-will be calling the Baldy center tomorrow to get there take...Weather report called for 50% chance of rain snow above 7000 ft

My .02 worth-Hunting season(s) can be found on California Department of Fish and Game website, every year the DFG "estimates" bear population and adjusts time, qty etc of bear tags based on this (I believe at least 3 bears were killed by Monrovia police this year on major streets). Populat...
