Re: 20120304 Schvaterfall Cyn First Descent - 300ft'er!!!!
Thanks, maybe I'll save if for a day I really feel like suffering or something. This looked promising on google maps ([latlon=34.27474894994771,-117.80825810460604]) and this ([latlon=34.274390605735995,-117.81425576156533]), which is where I think you went down. I remember seeing a bunch of water ...

Maybe. I think the bushwhacking at the bottom of the canyon was really bad. I don't think it would be worth it at all.

Re: Some crag in the middle of nowhere on the side of Hawkins ridge
Thanks for posting this up, Dima. Sorry about the dirt in the eye, didn't know it was from my vertical gardening! I would say the thing I lead was 5.easy, and the other stuff was 5.8+. I don't like grading stuff much anymore cause everyone argues over it and it ruins it for me so I just make it gene...

My tyvek ground sheet is quiet. It took some time to quiet down. It's got holes in it cause it's old now. Anyway, nah, fuck a cardboard tent. What about shelter halves? Those things suck ass as well.

I've been using various Pearl Izumi X-Alp models for a while now and really like em. I do not like how they keep discontinuing them! I would now like one like their grey mesh one from a few years back, I think it's called the Drift or something. Something similar to that with more room for a wide fo...

Re: Can You Be Ticketed for Speeding on a Curve with a Lower Limit?
I am with Sean's assessment. I don't think recommended speeds are legal limit, but again it is up to the issuing officer's judgement, so if you see fuzz on your butt then be cautious.

Re: Pacific Coast Bike Race 750 - 2024
Yup, I decided to bail at Morro Bay and take the train home from SLO. I wasn't really getting anything out of this. Had been thinking on it for a couple days and calmly decided to head home while I was riding down to the coast from Paso Robles. I had a good time riding with everyone and chasing 1st,...

Pacific Coast Bike Race 750 - 2024
I'm running in the PCBR 750, the shorter version of the 1500 I did last year (which I'll do again September 2024). If you'd like to watch my progress, here be a link: https://trackleaders.com/pacificexpress24 It'll be an interesting race for me as I'm using a road bike with a fair bit of go-fast stu...

I do plan on doing something very similar. I think I'm down. I work Saturdays so I might be unable to go but if you're down for a Sunda-Monday or whatever.

Gracias.
Nate, it was snowing when I was napping at the trailhead, but I believe it stopped as we were hiking up. After that it was spindrift, just snow on the ground blown back into the air.

Holy crap, he has risen! How you likin' Nevada? I rode through Reno a year ago. Not bad for a city. The state outside the cities is great, so quiet. How did the bike get stolen? Also, this means you're riding a regular bike now, yes? I have completed the race bike build. I will post some stuff up ab...

Up GMR to Ridge to Baldy Road, met Dima at Wanker Flats, hike up, climb, get the hell off the very windy summit, hike down, ride home. 77 miles with 11,340ft of climbing over the course of 19 hours or so. Here's a link to last year's full moon Baldy Bikeaneering trip report: https://eispiraten.com/v...

Re: 20240217-19 Death Valley to Barstow
Dima, the road west of amboy leads to Barstow, which suck enough to not bother with. Plus you have to take the freeway to avoid the USMC logistics depot... and then you exit the freeway into Barstow. It would be better to never be in Barstow. It's a terrible place. The section east of Barstow is dam...

Nah it's just too much of a pain in the ass to take em from my phone and send em via email to myself, then open em on the computer and put em on here... just imagine it in your head!
Yep, I put it on strava. All the photos are on there, too, since I do everything from my phone.

20240217-19 Death Valley to Barstow
I'm gonna try something new that might not flow so great. I wrote the first part of this trip report on Strava right at the very end when I was waiting for Amanda to pick me up. I don't wanna go through it and modify it to fit where I am now (home), so I'll put it in here first in its entirety, foll...

Arright imma go up there in LA flatlander idiot gear, set a speed record and then *DEBUNK* all the propaganda that says you need proper gear and training. ;-) Man, that backpack says it all. Re: Taco's Bike Thread
I haven't ridden the SA saddle yet. The bike probably wont be done for a few more weeks. All of my leather saddles took time to break in, which meant butt pain and saddle sores, but eventually they were all comfortable. The synthetics I've used don't break in, and aren't comfy beyond 60 miles, which...

Taco's Bike Thread
I figured I'd make a thread about the bike stuff I do, the bikes I build, routes, all kindsa crap that doesn't fit anywhere else. Some of this is just a reference for me, but maybe you'll find it interesting. Much of this will be written in my usual style, where I just spit out what I'm thinking. I ...

Of course it's unsalvageable! I have a shitload of new housing. I think I need to overhaul your bike. I bet you need a lot of stuff done to it. Hubs probably need service, all cables/housings replaced, bottom bracket is probably nuked, got 8lbs of rust in the tubes, probably got a colony of rare spi...
