Very cool. I wanna ride out there and climb Old Woman Statue. Has been on 'the list' for a real long time. Those peaks look awesome as well.

Re: Fish Fork Solo Backpacking (and lots of sheep)

The lowest falls in FF should be marked on a regular USGS map. That's the furthest you can go without some scrambling up around em and so forth. Not long after passing those you'll encounter more falls. I miss FF. Beautiful place. Nobody there. Great water. Very special place for me. Great photos of...

Re: 2023 Pacific Coast Bicycle Race 1500 - Portland to San Diego

Thanks guys. Yeah I tried Taco Bell a few times. I remember the one in Lompoc. The temperature outside was great but the sun was beating down so hard it felt much harder, and I had a bit of a sunburn. I chugged down some tubular items to gimme enough fuel to hit Santa Barbara. Stopped to fill up wat...

2023 Pacific Coast Bicycle Race 1500 - Portland to San Diego

I wrote a bit of a TR on this earlier as a rough draft and was thinking of how I was gonna do this. I've since thrown it out. I can't recall a lot of details because it was a long race, and often an exercise in sleep deprivation, so instead of the usual flow of a trip report like a sort of story I'm...

Re: "Ridge to River" - A San Gabriel Mountain Death March

That's pretty dope. Nice job. Feels good to stop. I know that feeling... friggin Prairie Fork is a true pain in the ass, and then you pop out near Mine Gulch and gotta walk south. At least the sun wasn't out for that first part on the way to Fish Fork. I am planning on something roughly similar, tho...

Re: Probable Mt Baldy winter closures

I have my own recent jury duty story, but will pass on it. Looks like I might have triggered something by indicating that I care about Baldy, and am willing to submit to some regulation. As I said, I am opposed to closures. But talk of 'individual rights' is a bit overdone. As soon as you wheel out...

Re: Probable Mt Baldy winter closures

My ideas suck. I have friendly ideas which take a long time (generational), and unfriendly ideas which are super exciting and don't take time. I think education is key. In my special fun fantasy world in my head, public school is wildly different and kids are taken into the mountains for extended pe...

I saw a few of the fat claw ones the other night near Windy Gap. I'm used to the skinny ones, I dunno if they're the same and maybe the chicks have big grabbers and the dudes are skinny and go fast or some shit I'm not a scientist for fuck's sake stop asking me. Sexual dimorphism, yet another inequa...

I also very strongly disagree with limiting access to land. For one thing, I disagree with keeping experienced individuals such as myself from being on my lands as a free human being because others have either died, made mistakes, been rescued, injured, etc. That is my absolute and final answer, and...

20230717 Another Ride Up Baldy

I had a trip planned with a buddy but he was unable to make it this weekend, so I went to the list in my head for things to do. I wanted something challenging at a higher elevation to escape the heat, so I narrowed it down to riding up Mount Islip to descend the south ridge, or going up Baldy to hit...

Gracias, Sean. I was thinkin there had to be a spring or two around. I have taken water from the spring down near the top of prairie fork on the way into fish fork before, thats the closest one to where i was. I had considered descending into prairie fork and pushing to Mine Gulch, maybe as an overn...

I cannot upload most of my images for some reason. None of them are close to a megabyte in size (20mb limit per image), so I don't get it. Only one loads. Frustrating and disappointing. It may be going up Baldy to Wrightwood to Windy Gap, down either Islip south ridge or the Hawkins down, plus c...

New Bike Day - Rincon to Wilson to Work

I work for a bike shop who has an account with Trek, so I was able to get an 1120 for a good deal. The 1120 is a lightweight rigid mountain bike with an aluminium frame and carbon fork, riding on 29 inch wheels that fits 3 inch wide tires, which means it can go over loose soil, sand, some snow, stuf...

Well in all fairness it's not a uniquely human trait. We fancy apes just do it 'big style' since we use tools and shit. That's my big winner question of life though, which comes first: human initiated extinction (or mass depopulation), or the whole let's go fuck Europa up or whatever. I do wanna see...
