Re: Buckhorn?

Anyone been to Buckhorn recently? We're thinking of driving ACH and thought might as well bring the tent. Bringing the dogs too. All's well up there?

- Thx!

Re: The snakes are out

After I read this TR all I'm thinking about at the start of a ride in Moro Canyon is "look closely at all those little, dark sticks on the trail - the baby rattlers are out...yadda, yadda." Ten minutes later I ride right by a big bubba laying across Bommer Ridge. Passed it on the business ...

Re: Harding MTB Time Trial

We had a plenty fun time on Harding Saturday. Total of 74 riders and perfect weather. I had no camera but here's a link from a photog who was working the event: http://freddiesphotos.com/p97102862 I finished in 1:26 which was far down the overall but second in my age group (60-69)....lol tho - only ...

Re: Dark Glow of the Mountains: Messner and Kammerlander (1984)

There are so many memorable (to me) lines from both Messner and Kammerlander in this film. I want to go back and write down Messner's explanation (near the end of the film) about 'drawing a line on the mtns.' etc. that he offers Herzog as a reference for why he does what he does. The whole journey w...

Dark Glow of the Mountains: Messner and Kammerlander (1984)

I apologize if this is common knowledge but, I have been unable to find this film with English subtitles - till the 'Cold Splinters' site linked this up.

Gasherbrum I and II - Alpine Style.

Re: Harding MTB Time Trial

This could get interesting if the snow level drops to 3K and we get 1-2" right before the 25th. If that's the case it's a toss-up who can hit that trail harder: The spandex-army on their light, $6K carbon hardtails vs. the adventure brigade on their bulldozer Pugsley's fronting 4" fatties....

Re: Harding MTB Time Trial

Two weeks to go and, it looks like there will be about 50 riders. The site is showing 33 registered and word is that there are a bunch of Strava riders and some Cat1-level riders waiting to the last minute to see who's in. I've been training on Harding every weekend and will put in one more big week...

Odd touch they added about Adam speaking "broken English." My conversations with him led me to believe he's anything but an "immigrant" with language issues. IIRC Adam told us once that he used to be in "banking",

Re: Blinky the cat

. In 15 years of hiking, we have seen 1 bobcat who disappeared into the brush before I could turn on the camera. Makes me wonder why there are so many sightings in Moro Canyon. I generally see one a month, always during the day. Bobcats in Moro are often seen on 'Moro Canyon' and 'I think I can' tr...

Re: Snow biking the hard way

Looks like Skelton's getting called on this half-assed 'expedition'. http://www.explorersweb.com/polar/news.php?id=20582 I gotta laugh at these media adventures tho, they keep me amused to find yet another wacko item along the way. The pictures of Skelton having her feet tended to by the "Team&...

Re: Cold Splinters

Thanks.

That little red p/u is truly missed. Traded up and had a feeling I would regret it. Didn't take long either, they brought out the Tacoma shortly thereafter and, gone were the simple, reliable small trucks you could easily work on with a buddy or two.

That engine was something. What followed the 22R? Mine, I believe, was the 22RE? ..the '93 edition of their p/u's.

Re: Snow biking the hard way

'Pugsleys' are plenty cool. I've been looking at a 'Mukluk'II over at The Path in Tustin. Both have proven track records on the Iditarod. Makes me wonder if this woman was planning all along on kiting & sledding more than biking - knowing how tough that terrain is - and just used the 'bike ride'...

Snow biking the hard way

http://arcticglass.blogspot.com/ Good catch by Jill Homer. Good summary from Mike Curiak about performance issues in sub-40 below conditions. Aside from the media-circus surrrounding this woman's Antarctic attempt, the simple fact that her effort is hardly on the radar in the serious snow-bike comm...

Re: Feeler: SGMDF Official Adventure Race!

(without requiring, say, bikes ...) But, maybe if you throw in a bike section you might find some more people to race. I say have a leg from the Village to Baldy Notch (further if there's no snow). Good stiff climb/hike without any technical/singletrack skills needed. Run a notice on the MTB forums...

Topped out at 89 on Bommer Ridge Sunday. Been riding all week (vacation) and wore one summer layer all day/everyday in Laguna Beach.

Cool looking at those big baggy cargo pants, thick wool socks and rope that looks like it came off a tugboat. Re: Ginkgo Biloba

I would be looking for increased blood flow to hands. Have problems on MTB with long descents in cold/altitude - numbness, cold in fingers. I remember road cyclists (pro climbers in particular) getting busted for using Viagra a few years back. Ginkgo a lot cheaper than V. - bought btl. of 100 @ 120 ...
