Re: Allison Mine Trail

Oh, and I am definitely interested in checking out Stanley-Miller mine. That's next. I'm not sure about doing that as a day hike though. It will take a few hours just to hike up to the bridge let alone Iron Fork. At some point I am also going to do an exploration of those mines beneath the San Anton...

Re: Allison Mine Trail

I see on a local MeetUp that some people on this forum are going to the Allison Mine in a couple of weeks. Dunno if this is helpful, but here's what info I have: lol. I wonder who you could be referring to? 8) I am considering going up the gulch. But actually if you read Travis's TR about ascending...

Re: USGS Topo easy download

Yeah when they pronounce "J", it's like a soft 'g', like the 'g' in 'beige. They also enunciate the 'e' at the end of the word, like a 'y' in english. So "Joe' sounded like 'sho-ee'. I lived in Sweden for a year; in Swedish "J" sounds like 'y', so Joseph became 'yoseph'. I r...

Re: USGS Topo easy download

Most Excellent. :!: :!: :!: We just call you "Joe, Ze map guy," so we can reconcile all your personalities. ;) lol that could work for the curious, "Zé" is basically "Joe" in portugues, which I speak pretty well and stayed in Brazil for 3 months. It comes from "Jo...

Re: USGS Topo easy download

Some of the ones I want have red lines running through them and they are not as interactive or printable like you posted, I must be doing something wrong. Thanks Not sure. When you mark a quandrangle, a marker pops up and you click on it, and it gives you options for which maps to download. Those O...

Re: USGS Topo easy download

You can use the usgs site which works fine by itself : http://store.usgs.gov/. click on 'map locator'

I'll add more off all the surrounding mountain ranges soon too for the socal site.

USGS Topo easy download

I made a little map that might be easier to quickly access and download those usgs topo maps. Just click on the quadrangle wanted, then click download topo.

The divisions are poorly constructed I know but it works! More will stem from this later.

Re: Rabbit #1 and Iron #3: 01-04-2009

Thanks. I'm gonna check this out this weekend. I'm either gonna do the loop, or get creative and car shuttle one car up near pacifico, out and back to rabbit, then do a one-way hike up the rest of the peaks to pacifico.

Wow did it really take 10 miles just for those 2 peaks? Looking at Travis's loop seems to be 12 miles total. What do you think?
