Absolutely great shots Mark (Turtle), great TR as well. Those cinnamon rolls sure make the misery subside quickly. Great to come up Falling Rock Canyon to find a friend atop Ontario Peak on a crisp fall October Morning. Hope to see you again soon, hope you enjoyed all the taped "ballgames"...

Re: 20130914 Dawson, Pine and Baldy
One heck of a trip all over the place. Nice. I've always wondered about going straight up or down the bowl when it's not winter. Sounds like you had no issues coming down. There's a faint scree trail that goes up or down the bowl slightly right of the ski hut almost dead even with the summit itself...

20130914 Dawson, Pine and Baldy
Wanted to do something different so we left Manker at 5:10 AM headed for the Ski Hut, from there we turned up to the right in the spring/water drainage to gain the saddle between Harwood & Baldy, back to car by 12:23 PM. From there we traversed across the north east face of Baldy above the south...

An Un-Official Summit Dedication and birthday hike for Ellen
Because it's her favorite area to hike, because it was her 60th birthday and because she's always getting people to hike a group of people got together and unofficially dedicated a "sub-summit" in honor of Ellen in the San Jacinto's. Happy Birthday Ellen and you deserve a peak named after ...

It was whispy on top with soft 5mph breeze which afforded a few views here & there but mostly a cloud of fog/precipitation.

Main Trail on Sat Morning
Up the Ski Hut trail to the summit early yesterday. The rain that came in the night made the plants come to life, one big horn ran across the trail in front of me (around 5:15 AM)(I was about a mile above the road just before the upper falls area), all the new trail signs have been cut off with a sa...

Re: Water at Ski Hut (Baldy Bowl)?
nickrp,
The one above the hut I've never seen completely dry in all the years I've been going up there, the one below the hut I would never trust, it's downhill from the "pit toilet" that is behind the hut, you should be fine.
Enjoy

Re: long lake from bishop pass TH (sierras)
Amazing, we were treated to a snow chute of 1,800 feet on the north west side just before reaching Bishop Pass. We were there early morning on a fairly cold morning so the snow was consolidated and it had rained the week before so there was some not quite icy conditions higher up, crampons and Ice a...

Re: Beyond Rattlesnake
Great job Sean, there's less brush than I expected so the fire did get that far up the ridge. I'll wait for the weather to cool this fall before I head up Rattlesnake but when it does I'm in for a longer shot. It might be worth doing a run up Hawkins from Crystal Lake and stashing some water in vari...
