Oh man, from our vantage high on the side of San Bernardino Peak, we could see that plume stretched out across the desert, at a right angle to us.

Re: Fire in SG East Fork

I was at the Burro Canyon Shooting Park with my crew on Saturday. On Sunday I was backpacking in the San Gorgonio Wilderness with Ingrid and dog, and at about 3:00, when we got into our campsite at Limber Pine Bench (9,360 feet), I looked over towards the San Gabriels and saw a huge plume of smoke r...

I soooo wanted to use the 20% coupon on a $600 four-season tent, but REI's tent selection is lousy.

So I bought a pair of overprice photochromatic glacier glasses instead:

Now, I get they were doing inspections, but again why were they there? Did they get a call from the shooting range operator? The public? Were they just in the area, and stopped by on a whim to see if anything is unusual to them? The last. Just some guys out in the desert minding their own business,...

LOL, you're hilarious. This is a Federal Law Enforcement Officer, if they have any suspicions that your firearms may be illegal, they have every right to check that, no matter what the jurisdiction, whether it be county, city, local, state, private or federal. They can usually write citations for a...

This year Ingrid and I have been using a Big Agnes double down mummy bag. Sharing body heat is an efficient way to go, especially good for her because I am such a warm sleeper and give off a lot of heat from which she can benefit.

Even the Momyer Creek permits were all gone. WTF? No way would all the Momyer Creek permits be used up. I figured ei...

San Gorgonio Labor Day

I'm leading a three day hike up Mt San Gorgonio via Dry Lake this weekend for the OCHC. Two nights camping at Dry Lake; Sunday day hike to the top. Chance of thunderstorms. We have a couple of spaces free.

Lemme know if you are interested.
