Re: The Andrew Curtis Tungsten Mine
What sucks about the trash situation is that unlike most abandoned buildings in the mountains, this site is built out of metal on concrete foundations so it will all stay around for a VERY long time. That massive hangar has another truck in it along with rows of shelves with tons of replacement part...

Re: The Andrew Curtis Tungsten Mine
We only explored the shorter tunnels. The longer one has over 1000ft of workings but we just didn't have time unfortunately. Maybe if I ever go back, I'll make it an overnight so I can spend more time there. It would be very difficult getting the road cleared though. The majority of the canyon is fl...

The Andrew Curtis Tungsten Mine
The Andrew Curtis Tungsten Mine is a recently abandoned mine at the top of Cattle Canyon below Mt. Baldy. Trucks, mining equipment, clothing, paperwork, and a full mill are just a few of the things that are left behind at the site. The site looks untouched as if the miners left it yesterday, especia...

Re: Tungsten Mine / Cattle Canyon abandoned?
So the Curtis tungsten mining claims are all inactive and have been since around 2014. I can do some more research to prove the site isn't currently owned but that may take some time. According to the assessor map, the land isn't owned by anyone and according to mining claims, the Curtis claims are ...

Okay. Thank you for starting this thread! I have been curious to know if there have been any in the foothills above Pasadena? I have some suspicions like off of the idlehour trail about here: (34.2021010, -118.0812166) Or about here in pine canyon: (34.2020944, -118.1152247) Maybe we can make some p...

Pictures?
Its the same with Eaton canyon falls like you all must know. About 15 years ago, my dad would take us hiking there and we would run into 4 to 10 people on the hike. Now it's a zoo which is unfortunate and pretty unsafe.

Re: Finding Tunnel #5 In Las Flores Canyon
Congratulations, guys! And thanks for the pictures. That's quite a story of discovery. I've been in that canyon several times, too, and never noticed the opening. We thought of 3 possible places the mine could have been. And this one was the least likely. By far the most digging I've done to find a...

Re: Finding Tunnel #5 In Las Flores Canyon
Longest explored mine in the canyon is 832 ft deep. It was mapped in 2003 by dell quick and Hugh Blanchard. On the 1906 map, it's mapped at maybe 100ft. The tunnel we found is mapped at around 300 ft. But like the 832 ft tunnel, it might be longer than what was mapped at the time.

Finding the Green Moss Mine in Las Flores Canyon
Dima, Eli, and I decided to check out the rest of the canyon after pausing our excavation. We came across this green moss on the side of the mountain. I look across the canyon to see a MINE IN THE CLIFF right above the trail I have been walking on for years!!! We explored it, took down the coordinat...

Finding Tunnel #5 In Las Flores Canyon
As some of you might know, I love to look for lost and forgotten mines in the mountains. My biggest goal is to find every mine in Las Flores Canyon and with the help of the Las Flores Water company, they gave me a map from 1906 showing almost ever mine in the canyon. One mine that looked pretty long...

3) Is it legal to do what you are doing? Probably not, technically. I think the water in the canyon is owned by the Las Flores water company at that point. The tunnels look to be also. "Las Flores Water Company, Inc. was organized in 1885 by charter members, Peter Gano and Dr. L. A. Wright. Th...

Exactly it. The wall next to the mine is sort of unstable so reinforcements of some kind are ideal. But I might give up on the project of the current rains filled in my work with debris.
